Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Nursing Director is responsible for the implementation of the organization's mission and values as well as the operational leadership and direction of assigned departments. He/She has authority, accountability and responsibility for long term planning, charting course for key initiatives, quality of services, financial management, as well as examining and evaluating processes throughout organization. In this role, the Nursing Director is responsible for performance improvement, clinical quality, patient, customer and associate satisfaction. He/She will maintain JCAHO and other regulatory standards. He/She will keep current on professional and industry standards, regulations and trends by attending professional seminars, institutes and reading professional journals; and work in collaboration with colleagues for necessary revisions to standards. The Nursing Director is also responsible for maintaining their own clinical skills and knowledge as needed to assist staff with patient care when required. They must provide an overall professional image, exercise independent judgement, contribute to the professional development of their team and serve as a role model for all associates and Nursing Department.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Assess the need for personnel, supplies, equipment, and physical facilities for budget planning.
- Development and implementation of a budget for the department and prepare reports for higher levels of management.
- Develop staffing plans within budget to meet patient needs.
- Assists with policy and procedure revisions, nursing practice issues, and changes needed to improve quality of care.
- Communicate and educates nursing staff of changes in policy, procedure, and standards through various forms of communication. (i.e. staff meetings, weekly update)
- Provides and coordinates clinical learning experience for students and staff. Supportive of the BEAM and volunteer programs.
- Participates on nursing committees, hospital/medical staff committees as requested.
- Plans, coordinates, and evaluates ongoing nursing competency and validation activities.
- Coordinates and assists with in-services for new procedures, policies, and equipment.
- Encourages staff to pursue certification in specialty areas.
- Maintains ongoing data collection and Performance Improvement activities to improve patient outcomes. Actively participates in performance improvement projects, teams and task forces. Knowledgeable regarding current Joint Commission and nursing practice issues.
- Completes required age-specific competency activities and demonstrates the knowledge and ability to meet the age-related needs of patients served."
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree Nursing or MSN in lieu of BSN
- 5 or more years of experience
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master Degree Nursing
- 3 or more years of management experience
Required Licensure and Certification
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing upon Hire
- CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
