Labor and Delivery

This expert, patient-focused team helps mothers-to-be through every step of the birth process by offering support and comfort. Our Labor and Delivery area has the latest electronic fetal monitoring equipment with central display for easy, constant observation. An operating suite for cesarean sections is just a few steps away.

Mother and Baby Care

The Mother-Baby Unit consists of 29 beds and cares for patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. We care for healthy term newborns, mother-baby couplets, high-risk antepartum patients and benign gynecology patients. Our patients receive care from a compassionate and highly skilled nursing and interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. We strive to make each birth a special experience for our families as they have been preparing for this event for many long months.

As an academic medical center, we are a referral center for patients needing a higher level and more specialized type of care from across the state, region and country. We work closely with our interdisciplinary team members, which includes medical residents and attending physicians from Obstetrics, Family Medicine and Pediatric advanced practice nurses (CNS, NP, CRNA, CNM), social workers, nursing case managers, lactation consultants, chaplains and many other specialties. We are located adjacent to Labor and Delivery and the Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to provide seamless care across the birth continuum. This makes our setting a place for you to learn, develop nursing expertise and shape your nursing career for the future. Every day is a learning opportunity for our staff.

We are also recognized as a Baby-Friendly Hospital and provide evidence-based maternity care and feeding support for our patients. We promote skin-to-skin contact with baby immediately after birth and 24-hour rooming-in throughout a family’s stay. As one of our team members, you will have the opportunity to nurture and teach young families, mentor and precept students (medical students, nursing students, paramedic students and others), learn about complex disease processes, and share your dedication and compassion with our patients and families.

Neonatal Intensive Care

This Level 3 Unit can accommodate 25 infants. Newborns who require comprehensive surgical or medical care are admitted to the NICU from Labor and Delivery as well as outside facilities. Using a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, the nursing staff provides total patient care to the tiniest, most fragile patients. Each infant’s emotional and developmental needs are addressed through the proper amount and types of stimulation. Staff also helps parents cope and care for their infants through in-depth education and planning.

Pediatric Care

Pediatric nurses provide a high level of care and comfort to their patients. They care for infants, children and adolescents who have a variety of medical and surgical conditions. The unit has extra security, although parents have 24-hour access and are encouraged to spend the night.

Pediatric Intensive Care

This unit provides nurses an opportunity to work with children of all ages who have complex surgeries and critical illnesses. Children receive treatment from a variety of specialty areas. Surgical procedures involve specialists in pediatric surgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery and more. PICU patients can take advantage of the same services provided to general pediatric inpatients. Both units have specific rooms with access to Angel Eye cameras, which allow family members to view their loved ones even if they are unable to be at the bedside. Parents have 24-hour access to the secure unit.
