The University of Kansas Health System offers many opportunities for you to make a difference in the clinical care we provide, including Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) who assist the licensed staff. Examples of these opportunities are:

  • Patient Care Assistant (PCA) cares for patients in an inpatient care hospital setting. Within the program is a newly created position, The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Entry. PCA Entries are not required to hold a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential prior to hiring. The Entry program includes a 3-week onboarding training.
  • Medical Assistant (MA) contributes to patient care by preparing patient for visit, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic test or consults, maintaining patient records, and assisting physicians, nurses and other medical staff in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting.
  • Sterile Processing Technician processes the instrumentation utilized in the operating room and ancillary areas according to regulatory standards and appropriate internal standards.
  • Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
