Pharmacy Technician II - Cancer Care Float

Join our Cancer Care team! This is a full time Cancer Care Pharmacy Technician position and will float between our different Cancer Care locations throughout the KC metro. A float differential is included with this position. We are proud to be a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designated Cancer Center, 1 of only 72 in the United States, and the only one in the state of Kansas. Patients treated at an NCI-designated cancer center have a 25% greater chance of survival compared to other cancer centers and our Pharmacy Technicians play a vital role in helping us provide great care. Cancer Care Pharmacy Technician's primary role is performing sterile compounding of cancer medications in our clean rooms. In addition, Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for daily cleaning of the sterile compounding areas, stocking supplies, calibrating equipment, scanning orders into the electronic medical record (EPIC) to ensure accuracy, placing as well as receiving drug orders, and stocking automated dispensing cabinets (Omnicell).

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Prepares medications for dispensing: Efficiently and accurately prepares basic and advanced sterile compounds following all established procedures and safety protocols. Passes annual sterile compounding competency with no corrections.
- Distributes medications and stock items: Pulls and stocks ADS machines & CSM with high accuracy and timeliness. Ensures accuracy of ADS inventory through outdates, cycle counts, resolution of discrepancies and accurate barcode scanning. Maintains drug transfer records appropriately for transfers between pharmacy locations.
- Maintains Pharmacy Inventory: Places and receives drug orders through wholesaler. Understands how to review patient schedules to determine appropriate inventory needs when placing drug orders. Orders appropriate NDCs through knowledge of configured NDCs and NDC implications with ADS machines. Places and receives supply orders. Executes basic backorder management. Accurately follows controlled substance policies when ordering / receiving controlled substances.
- Operates pharmacy computer systems: Understands advanced computer operations in core systems, with ability to trouble shoot and correct errors. Follows standards set for utilization of technology with a high degree of accuracy.
- Compliance and recordkeeping: Accurately maintains pharmacy records and logs (invoices, recalls, inventory etc.). Organizes records for easy access and review. Demonstrates knowledge of changing regulatory and quality standards and applies knowledge to daily work, escalating when appropriate.
- Patient Care: Communicates effectively with patients, caregivers and staff to resolve routine service concerns. Provides accurate information about pharmacy processes while escalating appropriately.
- Medication Safety: Consistently applies safety protocols, recognizes potential medication errors, and collaborates with pharmacists and leaders to correct issues. Reports safety events and near misses in Health System reporting tool. Escalates safety issues that may impact other locations in daily huddles.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- High School Graduate or GED.
- 2 or more years experience as a pharmacy technician in a comparable setting
Required Licensure and Certification
- Pharmacy Technician Registration - State Board of Pharmacy Kansas and/or Missouri - per work state upon Hire
- Technician must maintain certification on an ongoing basis and complete all continuing education requirements.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR equivalent National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT-Adv) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
