Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Essential Responsibilities Provides effective leadership to the unit/team. Able to strategically identify, internalize and communicate the critical success factors necessary for the unit/team. Serves as an effective communicator of the unit's/team's vision and goals. Expresses ideas clearly and effectively (gaining agreement and/or understanding), by adjusting language, terminology and style to the characteristics and needs of the audience as well as the venue for the communication. Manages his/her organizational responsibilities in a way that supports the achievement of unit/team goals. Works effectively with others in the management team to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems. Skillfully administers, directs and allocates all organizational resources. Demonstrates personal effectiveness in leading the unit/team towards it goals. Models appropriate values and maintains and promotes social, ethical and organizational norms. Creates and communicates the ""big picture"" understanding of the hospital and works to ensure the department supports the organization's desired competitive position. Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to develop a unit/team-wide spirit and intra-team and inter-team cooperation. Stays focused on all key stakeholders and supports the unit/team ability to deliver on all valid stakeholder expectations. Effectively uses the appropriate financial concepts and tools to analyze situations and make financial decisions that support the achievement of short and longer-term departmental objectives.

  • Essential Functions – Specific to Support Services Supports and coaches staff, providing exceptional customer service. Responsible for posting payments, daily reconciling, and daily business management Monitors budgeted expenditures and keeps the section expenditures within 5% of the annual budget as adjusted for volume changes. Responsible for equipment validation, maintenance, and record keeping. Regulatory: Operates the department, meeting and/or exceeding all regulatory requirements according to the American Board of Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, and The Joint Commission. Quality Assurance: Develops an annual QA plan, actively participates in the QA process and assures the completion of quarterly reports. Assure that personnel in the section are adequately trained and follow ethical practices in all aspects of services. Creates, updates, and maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals. Maintain close, collaborative relationships with physicians, nurse managers and other customers/referral sources.
  • Other Essential Functions Determine elements of the fitting room (e.g., adjustable stool, exam/fitting table, mirror, hard back chair etc. Determine required equipment, tools and materials Comply with environmental safety regulations in all practice settings (e.g., work place hazards) Assure quality care by development and maintenance of policies and procedures regarding patients, prescribers, personnel, maintenance of records, etc. Comply with HIPPA regulations Maintain patient confidentiality Assist in training, lectures, and information to staff or other health care professionals on current orthotics and prosthetic information Participate in a quality assurance system that evaluates patient care Participate in professional and educational symposiums Establish relationship with patient Patient IntakeRecord all personal and insurance information about patient Discuss financial matters for services/devices Determine patients expectations Interview patient and obtain history Collect and evaluate patient records Recognize the pathology of the disease to provide the proper care Discuss any related medical treatments
  • Evaluate and assess patient to determine:Skin condition Range of motion Manual dexterity Posture and gait Sensation
  • Assess prescriptionDetermine elements of a valid prescriptionVerify validity of prescriber Verify information contained on prescription Determine relation of prescription to presenting problem Discuss prescription with patient (i.e., explain the patient’s role /responsibility Contact prescriber if discussion/revision is necessary
  • Explain purpose /objective of orthosis/prosthesisInform patient and/or caregiver of the various procedures to be performed Explain advantages and disadvantages Determine patient’s expectations Explain patient’s role/responsibilities
  • Provide initial instructionsInstruct patient and/or caregiver in care of orthosis and prosthesis Demonstrate proper application, alignment, and removal Instruct patient and/or caregiver in fitting adjustments such as tightening straps etc. Explain how to recognize potential problems (e.g., pressure points, skin breakdown, numbness, contractures Explain care and cleaning procedures
  • Evaluate psychological impact of devices on patient, family and others Procedures for patient follow-upInitiate and encourage on-going communication with patient and./or caregiver Maintain patient’s record Inform patient and/or caregiver of provisions for continued servicing of device (e.g., adjustments and consultations) Communicate with the patient and/or caregiver verbally and in writing
  • Conduct inter-professional communications Finalize alignment and fit orthosis/prosthesis to patient Don orthosis/prosthesis to patient and finalize alignment, fit, and cosmetic appearance Demonstrate to patient and/or caregiver donning, doffing, fitting adjustments and care of orthosis and prosthesis Explain how to recognize potential problems Have patient or caregiver demonstrate proper application and removal Have patient and/or caregiver sign receipts and acknowledgments
  • Explain follow-up proceduresEvaluate fit and function of orthosis/prosthesis Perform necessary adjustments Schedule follow-up visits
  • Select techniques for patient fittings (e.g., patient positioning)Identify anatomical landmarks Use measuring devices

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Technical/Professional training/degree in prosthetic fitting
  • High School Graduate
  • Previous retail sales management
  • Customer service training

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree Business or healthcare

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Certified Mastectomy Fitter - American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABCOP)
