Senior Cybersecurity Engineer

Position Summary / Career Interest:
The University of Kansas Health System is looking for an experienced cybersecurity professional to join our Security Architecture & Engineering (SAE) team. This is a rapidly maturing team of highly motivated professionals focused on delivering robust technology solutions both on premise and in the cloud to our internal customers. In this role, you will: Support a growing suite of security technologies within the Cybersecurity Team. Perform technical architecture reviews, ensuring adequate security controls, safeguards and countermeasures are in place to avoid, detect, counteract, or minimize security risk. Partner cross-functionally across the health system, to support risk mitigation, assist with alignment of cybersecurity standards, maintain critical business operations, address issues in a timely manner, and work on program initiatives. Monitor cybersecurity systems - this includes proactively monitoring servers, networks, and systems for irregularities; building metrics, updating dashboards, investigating performance issues, and adjusting to ensure alignment with industry standards and policies. Support the ongoing implementation, improvement, maintenance and expansion of Firewalls, IDS/IPS, load balancers, network access control (NAC) and web application firewalls (WAF). Proactively support risk mitigation, alignment of standards, critical business operations, issue SLAs in a timely manner, remediate concerns, and deliver key program initiatives. Support the deployment of tools and technologies, and where applicable, define appropriate security requirements. Speak on security topics across a wide variety of technical or non-technical audiences. Develop and refine metrics to improve internal processes. Create and maintain robust documentation related to security technology, architecture, and processes. Acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the planning, implementation, management, monitoring, and upgrading of security measures and systems for the protection of the organization's data, systems, and networks. Serve as the technical expert for complex projects and partner with others to successfully drive them to completion. Identify internal and or external challenges, vendor and/or regulatory issues; recommending process, product or service improvements to address. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior levels of the Cybersecurity organization.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the planning, implementation, management, monitoring, and upgrading of security measures and systems for the protection of the organization's data, systems, and networks.
- Stay up to date on emerging security and technology trends; assess and communicate their feasibility for UKHS to senior leadership.
- Act as the technical expert for complex projects and partner with others to successfully drive them to completion.
- Develop technical documentation, graphs, and flowcharts to effectively communicate complex information with little guidance.
- Identify internal and or external challenges, vendor and/or regulatory issues; recommend process, product or service improvements to address.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex security and network problems.
- Respond to all security events as required.
- Participate actively in the change management process, providing high levels of technical representation for the Cybersecurity organization.
- Daily administrative tasks, reporting, and communication with the relevant departments in the organization.
- Communicate complex technical concepts, anticipate potential objections, and persuade peers and working groups to adopt an appropriate point of view.
- Provides technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior levels of the Cybersecurity organization.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Preferred Education and Experience
- High School Graduate
Knowledge Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to use innovative thinking to develop solutions to complex problems with impacts on the business.
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, must be able to effectively communicate technical and strategic information to a to peers, working groups, and junior level members of the Cybersecurity Organization.
- Demonstrated experience with at least 1 scripting language.
- Recognized organizational expert in a technical discipline.
- In-depth understanding for the assigned portion of Cybersecurity organization, with at least 3 years-experience in a large enterprise environment.
- Working-level knowledge in at least 4 of cybersecurity domains: Security & Risk Management, Asset Security, Security Engineering, Communications & Network Security, Identity & Access Management, Security Assessment & Testing, Security Operations, Software Development Security.
- Understanding of MS Azure technical concepts.
- Functional understanding of internal, regulatory, and industry standards as they apply to a business environment.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills.
