Position Summary / Career Interest:
Nursing informatics is a specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge and wisdom. This role reports to Clinical Informatics. This role requires basic/novice skills in the practice of informatics to support information system value through quality, safety and user experience. This role includes three primary functions, basic analysis, and understanding of data standards and system adoption. Applies basic analysis concepts; including evaluation of current state against desired future state with consideration to policy, compliance, evidence, quality, operational standardization, workflow implications, reliability and usability of the system. Applies the understanding of data quality and standards that impact the ability to harvest information out of information systems and drive decision support. Proactively provides education with consideration to adult learning principles, workflow and efficiency. The goal of this role is to apply basic informatics knowledge delivery that supports the performance improvement of professional clinical practice using information systems. Desired results are user adoption of information systems, data transformation for clinical decision support, research and business intelligence, interoperability of the EHR, and to achieve optimal patient quality outcomes as a result of system support.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Analysis: Demonstrates basic analysis skills. Serves as the centralized intake and initial point of contact for informatics requests or issue investigation for area of support assigned. Provides analysis of requests and delivers solutions or escalates as appropriate. Able to analyze current state, identify user need, outline future state solution, and map processes. Able to prioritize work appropriately. Ability to work efficiently and independently to achieve assignment outcomes. Provides evaluation and consultation for assigned area of responsibility technology needs.
- Data and Informatics Standards: Demonstrates a basic understanding of data, data quality and Informatics standards that allow for the integration of data, information and knowledge to support decision support and business intelligence (data warehousing). Utilizes data and Informatics standard concepts in the design of solutions. Documents standards according to the specified documentation model. Participates in review cycles to ensure standards are maintained over time. Grows informatics skills by partnering with senior informaticists, attending Informatics educational opportunities and self-study.
- Change Management: Intakes end user requests. Leads non system wide change requests from request to completion. Participates in projects in order to learn and grow Informatics experience. Participates in software system projects and development life cycles: planning, analysis, design, limited build, testing and limited training. Recognizes the importance of generating end user engagement in change processes. Role models best practice of the system, promotes the system workflows, engages the end user in adoption of the system. Exhibits positive, helpful and responsive support to end users. Assists with super user program implementation and support. Delivers educational guidance or materials to super users.
- Quality Management: Recognizes need and supports standardization of workflow processes in accordance with current evidence, quality initiatives, regulatory compliance, billing compliance. Applies continuous process improvement methodologies to foster optimal outcomes. Analysis of identified system process improvements for area of support. Completes data collection to identify root causes of system issues, uses output in analysis of solutions and ongoing improvement efforts.
- Usability: Demonstrates basic understanding of usability principles. Observes end users for opportunities to improve the system and/or end user knowledge working towards greater system adoption. Completes focused process observations of end users’ interactions with information systems to identify improvements. Proactively identifies opportunities for system and workflow enhancements in specific work or subject areas, initiates request for improvement, manages improvement request through the development life cycle.
- Distributed Build: Responsible for limited build through the distributed build program after trained and/or certified as appropriate for the software supported.
- Educates: Acts as a liaison, role model, educator and champion for end users in understanding and utilization of system and processes. Supports development and delivery of pre/post implementation education efforts to promote adoption of changes. Collaborates with cross-departmental analysts for ongoing information sharing and educational growth. Supports the development and ongoing evaluation of onboarding processes and competency evaluations for various roles.
- Process Adherence: Complies with defined framework for system implementation for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating changes.
- Information System Knowledge: Applies basic understanding of the technical capabilities of our current systems to facilitate end user education and customization. Obtains required application training and demonstrates competency. Uses resources available to further enhance knowledge deficits.
- Professional Growth: Supports hospital strategic goals by developing skills and knowledge of the profession of Nursing Informatics and Informatics Industry standards.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree Nursing
- High School Graduate
- 3 or more years direct patient care experience; literature search/review experience
Required Licensure and Certification
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
- EPIC Proficiency/Certification within 6 months of orientation completion; as designated by role requirements. within 180 Days
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- Nursing Informatics Certification
Knowledge Requirements
- Demonstrates knowledge of computers and desktop software
