Position Summary / Career Interest:

Provides leadership in the absence of the Department Managers /Director Patient Care/VP/COO for total activities of MCMC resulting in optimal care and the development of assigned staff to their fullest potential. Coordinates with department managers to optimize staffing assignments and staffing for the MCMC departments after hours. Provides professional image and is a role model for staff. Responsible for meeting JCAHO and MCMC standards of nursing practice.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Identifies own learning needs and plans continuing education accordingly. Participates in and contributes to PI plan. Completes required age-specific competency activities and demonstrates knowledge and ability to meet the age-related needs of patients served.
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to use good judgment and make appropriate decisions coherent with the situation or event presented. Maintains communication and promotes cooperation with all departments. Seeks assistance from appropriate resource person as necessary in solving clinical management problems. Serves as a consultant in technical and professional matters. Serves as a resource person, educator and role model for staff
  • Assists in planning for safe, economical and efficient patient care. Assists all departments in efficiently using paid hours to maximize resource utilization. Provides daily continuity and coordination of nursing unit staffing.
  • Acts as a liaison between patient, family, physician, and patient care team. Interprets, supports, and recommends administrative and nursing service policies and procedures for employees. Assists other managers in data collection and abstraction as requested.
  • Seeks assistance from appropriate resource person as necessary in solving clinical management problems. Serves as a consultant in technical and professional matters. Serves as a resource person, educator and role model for staff
  • Performs as the administrative representative on duty while on duty. Consistently shows initiative; recognizes the needs of visitors, the departments, co-workers, medical staff and others, and responds without having to be specifically asked or directed.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Associate Degree Nursing
  • High School Graduate
  • 3 or more years of nursing experience

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Management experience

Required Licensure and Certification
  • CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS upon Hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing (Kansas) or compact license
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 120 Days
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) - Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) within 120 Days
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) within 180 Days
