Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to coordinate the interdisciplinary approach to patient care. He/she provides safe, therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. He/she integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families through the continuum of care. The RN collaborates with others to integrate assessment and input of the patient, family and the interdisciplinary team. He/she ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. Demonstrates leadership skills in decision-making and problem solving. The RN integrates and communicates knowledge and sensitivity to patient's psychosocial, spiritual, cultural and age specific needs. He/she practices within the boundaries of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards and organizational/departmental policies and procedures.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in accordance with the Kansas Nurse Licensure Compact upon hire

  • Healthcare Provider CPR – (American Heart Association or American Red Cross ONLY) within 7 days of hire

  • Peri-anesthesia requires 1 to 3 years of experience

Certifications by Department

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 180 days of hire for the following departments:
    * RN-Surgery MCMC

    * Surgery RN - Peri-anesthesia ASC Pre-Post

    * Surgery RN - Peri-anesthesia Day Surgery

    * Surgery RN - Peri-anesthesia PACU

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course.(ASC and Main PACU nurses only) within 180 days of hire:
    * RN-Surgery MCMC
    * Surgery RN - Peri-anesthesia ASC Pre-Post
    * Surgery RN - Peri-anesthesia Day Surgery
    * Surgery RN - Peri-anesthesia PACU

  • RN Surgery MCMC: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 140 days of hire

Preferred

Experience by Department

  • Per-anesthesia PACU: 1 to 3 years of critical care experience and/or 1 to 3 years of peri-anesthesia experience
  • Open Heart Surgery: Previous surgery experience
  • Peri-anesthesia Day Surgery: Peri-anesthesia experience
  • Peri-anesthesia ASC Pre-Post: Peri-anesthesia nursing

Certification by Department

  • MCMC: Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR)
  • ASC: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
  • Main OR: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
  • Open Heart Surgery: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
  • Per-anesthesia ASC Pre-Post: Certified Ambulatory Peri-Anesthesia Nurse (CAPA) and Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN)
  • Peri-anesthesia Day Surgery: Certified Ambulatory Peri-Anesthesia Nurse (CAPA)
  • Peri-anesthesia PACU: Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN)
  • Resource Team: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
