Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Hospice Nurse Manager is responsible for the clinical oversight, supervision, and operational management of hospice nursing services. This role ensures delivery of high-quality, patient-centered end-of-life care in compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoPs), state regulations, and organizational policies. The Nurse Manager leads interdisciplinary coordination, supports staff competency, drives performance improvement, and ensures regulatory readiness.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Oversees daily operations of hospice nursing services (RNs, LPNs, and Hospice Aides as applicable).
  • Promotes patient-centered, compassionate care aligned with hospice philosophy.
  • Provides oversight and supervision of hospice nursing services aligned with individualized plans of care.
  • Reviews clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Ensures timely and compliant admissions, recertifications, and visit frequencies.
  • Monitors clinical outcomes including symptom management and hospitalization rates.
  • Provides clinical guidance on symptom management, end-of-life care, and complex cases.
  • Oversees staffing, scheduling, timekeeping, orientation, on-going education and caseload distribution and productivity.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings.
  • Actively participates and may lead weekly Interdisciplinary Team Meetings.
  • Assists with budgeting, resource utilization, and supply management.
  • Provides direction, suggestions, and education to promote and improve the patient experience.
  • Conducts interviews in a professional and effective manner.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and problem resolution skills.
  • Participates in committees and work groups.
  • Works collaboratively with providers, ancillary departments, and vendors.
  • Promotes a culture of professional accountability and emotional intelligence.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, competency validations, coaching and correction actions when needed.
  • Leads or participates in QAPI (Quality Assurance Performance Improvement) initiatives.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree Nursing
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • 2 or more years of hospice or palliative care experience
  • 1 or more years of leadership or supervisory experience

Required Licensure and Certification
  • CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing or compact license
  • KDADS Background Review upon Hire
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license, Kansas Class C or equivalent. MVR results must be in compliance with Health System Safe Driving Program Policy. Candidate must have access to reliable, personal transportation. Vehicle must carry insurance with at least the minimum automobile liability insurance levels required by the state(s) of operation.
