Position Summary / Career Interest:

Provides professional nursing services in assessment, treatment, and care of patients in the clinic setting. Provides patient nursing care and coordinates care planning. Functions as a liaison between the patient and physician. Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8 am -4:30 pm


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiovascular disease processes by obtaining and interpreting data; identifying appropriate use and dose of medications; understanding lab values and properly adapting procedures and treatments
  • When necessary, room patients; ascertain patient identification; obtain basic patient data (chief complaint, pain level, allergies, current medications); obtain vitals, weight, assessment of general appearance; verify exams to be performed
  • Perform protime and lipid studies with recommendations based on results; perform EKG’s; start IV’s for testing (as required); assist with stress echos and nuclear tests; utilize proper procedures in administering medications and performing lab tests based on physician direction
  • Assist physician as needed with patient treatment, examination and testing
  • Report critical labs/diagnostic test values to physician; communicate test results to patients per physician instruction; arrange hospital cath procedures; obtain orders, patient instructions, appropriate prescriptions from physician; complete pre-certification; provide patient and family education, i.e. procedures, tests, medication, nutrition health/wellness
  • Perform patient telephone triage; receive phone call/messages from patients; assess urgency of calls; consult physician; document patient notification/follow-up
  • Maintain patient and organizational confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
  • Serve as a clinical resource for patients, practice staff and physicians; participate in training, orientation and education of new employees; oversee maintenance and quality control of medications, emergency equipment, crash cart, stocking of exam and procedure rooms, lab controls, sharps/biohazard
  • Maintain professional appearance and attitude
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • 1 or more years RN experience with cardiac and/or telemetry patients (e.g. outpatient cardiology, progressive care, ICU, Cath Lab, inpatient telemetry, etc.)


Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2 or more years cardiology clinic experience


Required Licensure and Certification

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)


Preferred Licensure and Certification

  • Acute/Critical Care Nursing (Pediatric) (CCRN) - American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN)
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) - Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
