The Donor Engagement Director leads an innovative, fresh thinking donor engagement program to create meaningful stewardship that leads to lifelong philanthropic support for The University of Kansas Health System. This position is a new role for the institution – allowing for an individual the opportunity to create and build a foundation of proactive donor relations that fosters grateful giving with a primary focus of major and principal gifts to a loyal pipeline of charitable donors for the health system.
The Donor Engagement Director leads an innovative, fresh thinking donor engagement program to create meaningful stewardship that leads to lifelong philanthropic support for The University of Kansas Health System. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- In partnership with the Advancement team, establish system-integrated tools for frontline fundraisers to manage stewardship activities in the donor database.
- Take a holistic view of donor engagement from first contact to deepening relationships to meaningful and memorable thanks (including donor acknowledgements, impact reports, financial reports, clinician engagement, etc.) – and create a program that fosters increased philanthropic commitment to the health system.
- Work hand in hand with prospect management to develop a comprehensive strategy and execute a well-defined process to smoothly guide donors through the giving pipeline by ensuring we maximize engagement and support along the way.
- Ensure that donors have a complete picture of their giving and impact made on the organization through the stewardship reporting cycle including (impact reports, endowed fund reports, and financial reporting, etc.); as well as special, targeted and meaningful engagement opportunities to witness their impact firsthand.
- Utilize data to inform decision making by looking at analytics and donor insights and behaviors to inform donor engagement strategies, donor segmentation, and personalized communication plans in partnership with Director of Philanthropic Marketing & Communications.
- Oversee, catalogue, and create a streamlined approach to donor wall recognition throughout the entire health system – ensuring recognition is maintained, meaningful and appropriate.
- Develop and define stewardship policies, procedures and protocols and work to implement across fund development and other areas throughout the health system as needed in partnership with the Sr. Director of Philanthropy.
- Work closely with various team members including Fund Management, Finance, Marketing, Individual & Institutional Giving, Annual Fund, Prospect Research, Advancement, and Events.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
- 5 or more years of experience working in major gift, or annual fund fundraising OR
- 5 or more years of experience working in donor communications or stewardship of donors.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
- 6 or more years of experience in stewardship/donor/constituent relations.
- 6 or more years of experience working in a healthcare organization, or a non-profit environment or raising funds for higher education institutions.
- 7 or more years of experience using data analytics for fundraising.
Knowledge Requirements
- Experience and understanding working in a CRM database.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.
- Detail-oriented, well-organized, focused and goal oriented, with a high-level of initiative is essential.
- Ability to multi-task and facilitate projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Approach projects with a high level of initiative and resourcefulness.
- Takes accountability for the quality and timeliness of projects while maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
- Possesses excellent time management skills, attention to detail, and follow through.
- Is comfortable working independently and when needed in collaboration with various stakeholders.
- Ability to be open and honest while working with colleagues.
