Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Perioperative and Procedural Scheduling Nurse Manager is a key leader in the centralized perioperative and procedural business operations department, supporting all surgical and procedural clinical departments within the health system. This role is responsible for overseeing the scheduling of all surgical and procedural cases, ensuring efficient and effective scheduling to optimize resource utilization and access. The manager coordinates closely with various departments to provide high-quality patient care. They will lead a team of scheduling coordinators and collaborate with surgeons, proceduralists, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and administrative personnel to maintain seamless operations and enhance the scheduling experience.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Leadership and Management:
  • Supervise and mentor the surgical and procedural scheduling team.
  • Develop and implement scheduling policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to ensure alignment with departmental goals.
  • Provide performance feedback and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Ensure training programs are timely and support business objectives.
  • Organize and coordinate operational goals for maximum productivity.
  • Scheduling Operations:
  • Oversee the scheduling of all procedures, ensuring optimal use of resources.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff to schedule procedures promptly.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of scheduling information.
  • Monitor scheduling to minimize cancellations and delays.
  • Provide oversight for surgical block management, train, and support key stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement patient education programs for procedural scheduling.
  • Ensure comprehensive pre-procedure instructions for patients.
  • Coordinate with authorization teams to support documentation for prior authorizations.
  • Access and Resource Management:
  • Develop strategies to enhance patient access to services.
  • Monitor and optimize resource utilization of facilities, equipment, and staff.
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to align scheduling with resource availability.
  • Implement practices to maximize operating room and procedural suite utilization.
  • Quality Improvement:
  • Develop and deliver training programs for new scheduling staff.
  • Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in scheduling.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Governance Support and Block Allocation Management:
  • Develop policies and procedures for block allocation, resource allocation, utilization, and scheduling.
  • Oversee block management, providing training and support to stakeholders.
  • Facilitate adoption and maintenance of third-party systems for scheduling and decision support.
  • Ensure accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting for scheduling KPIs.
  • Collaborate with leadership to evaluate operational impacts of scheduling changes.
  • Guide team members on standard processes and participate in continuous quality improvement.
  • Operational and Business Management:
  • Oversee daily business operations of the scheduling team.
  • Track, monitor, and report team productivity.
  • Support a team-centric atmosphere through training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Address opportunities for improvement and service recovery needs.
  • Ensure collaboration across units for operational effectiveness.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree Nursing
  • 5 or more years of nursing experience
  • 2 or more years in a surgical, procedural, or perioperative setting
  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related field

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing OR
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing

Knowledge Requirements
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and scheduling software
  • Knowledge of surgical and procedural terminology
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care
