Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Vice President of Pharmacy and Health Professions reports to the Chief Operating Officer, Kansas City Division and is responsible and accountable for leading and monitoring all activities that drive cost-effective, high-quality care and service to all patients served by The University of Kansas Health System at all locations where these services are provided. This role provides executive oversight for the daily delivery of care to inpatients and outpatients receiving specified diagnostic and therapeutic services and ensures these services are maintained at the highest possible levels of safety and quality to achieve maximum outcomes, to meet all regulatory and accreditation standards and to ensure optimal financial sustainability. Further, this role provides oversight of daily operations related to all aspects which support the continuum of care including development and monitoring of budgets and strategic plans, contract negotiations, vendor relations, capital acquisitions, and space planning, employee recruitment and retention, workload design and staffing plans, medical equipment operation and maintenance and supply chain management. Responsible for developing and driving innovative pharmacy benefit and operational strategies. Provides executive leadership to a team responsible for the organization's pharmacy department including clinical programs, pharmacy administration, pharmacy operations, pharmacy government programs, drug company contracting and rebate management and pharmacy strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Model and hold team accountable to demonstrating health system mission, vision and values.
- Mentor and motivate staff with the goals of retention of the best and brightest and development of staffing growth plans and leadership succession plans.
- Recommends strategic approaches and planning based on deep healthcare knowledge and experience related to management of Health Professions departments.
- Demonstrates a sound working knowledge of capital and space design needs, regulatory and accreditation standards and laws for Health Professions departments through existing or acquired first-hand experiences, direct observation and study of workflows and daily operations.
- Demonstrates effective communication, direct engagement and the ability to initiate and maintain formal and informal partnerships with key internal and external customers including patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical staff, healthcare executives and administrative or academic leaders, regulators, policymakers, patient advocates, investors, vendors and business partners.
- Problem-solves to maintain effective and efficient operations and highest possible quality of patient care and clinical and/or technical support through partnerships and collaboration with strategic planning, finance, information systems, contracting, billing, compliance, support services and all others.
- Is a key participant to ensure financial stewardship and sustainability of departments with involvement in budget planning and monitoring, oversight of billing procedures and collections, monitoring of overhead and equipment maintenance, development and execution of cost containment/reduction strategies and other components of the revenue stream and expense management of the departments.
- Develop business tools to analyze and provide continuous improvement of workflows.
- Provides direct oversight, hands-on management and coordinates additional resources needed to respond to circumstances requiring crisis intervention to maintain or restore operations in clinical professions departments.
- Effectively partners with physician leaders in the departments associated with Pharmacy and Health Professions.
- Develops, maintains, communicates and executes a vision and plan for continual improvement and provision of exceptional quality pharmacy service including; clinical, patient care, medication safety, pharmacoeconomic, operational and personnel dimensions.
- Leads the Pharmacy Departments to achievement of excellent pharmaceutical care by providing vision for the development of exceptional quality pharmacy services, assuring accountability and facilitating effective communication relative to these initiatives.
- Participates in hospital committees and interdisciplinary efforts to enhance medication use and control medication costs, by providing vision for quality and service initiatives to improve patient care.
- Upholds and promotes the patient-first culture of The University of Kansas Health System.
- As an executive of The University of Kansas Health System, represents and participates in problem-solving, strategy and performance improvement initiatives outside of primary areas of responsibility. Consistently supports and prioritizes health system goals and strategies even when not in primary areas of responsibility.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Master's Degree or higher in Business, Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration, Public Health or Healthcare occupation
- 6 or more years of continuous experience in healthcare leadership roles of progressively higher-level responsibility.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Most recent 3 years in an executive position or a position directly reporting to an executive in an academic and/or large health system setting.
Required Licensure and Certification
- Licensed Pharmacist - State Board of Pharmacy
Required Language Skills
- English - Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Knowledge Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
