Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Strategic Sourcing analyst holds responsibility and ownership over a defined contract spend, category and value for the organization. The Analyst is responsible for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to drive communication, review and decisions on contracts related to medical device, commodity and clinical preference products and purchased service categories. The analyst participates in opportunities to optimize, negotiate and execute on business terms for agreements which yield protection along with value for the organization.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  • Executes upon the activities and tasks related to position to achieve the department’s strategic plan
  • Supports The University of Kansas Health System’s strategic contract plan through:
    * Participation in the continuous review of the program’s vision, purpose and values
    * Removing risk from the organization as it relates to contract activation or inactivation
    * Working the category management pipeline proactively to ensure timely execution of contracts 
    * Responsible for competitively bidding contracts via: RFX (information, quote, proposal, or enhancement) 
    * Negotiation of contracts to produce highest value outcome 
    * Initiate local contracts when GPO and aggregation membership contracts do not support initiative 
    * Inactivation of non-utilized, non-value add, or redundant contracts 
    * In all contract plan, ensure review encompasses our affiliate network
  • Partners with legal contracting and contracting leadership and HITS to PDCA (Plan, Do, Check Act) the processes and align with industry standards.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and suppliers for the implementation of contract execution.
  • Communicates opportunities with stakeholders to optimize current contract utilization or other programmatic values.
  • Responsible for contract utilization and management of initiatives utilizing GPO (Group Purchasing Organization) and aggregate membership.
  • Manage and build vendor relations through collaboration on strategic and innovative initiatives for the organization
  • Facilitates and/or participates in Supplier Business Reviews.
  • Monitor industry trends and awareness of relevant and economic business factors which drive contract decisions.
  • Performs research in terms of benchmarking to identify opportunities for supply cost savings in medical device, clinical preference, commodity, and indirect spend categories.
  • Responsible for establishment and ongoing relationship management with internal and external customers
  • Ensure alignment with TUKHS goals and strategic partners, including GPO and aggregation groups.
  • Facilitate and participate in Contract Overview Selection Process to share updates on: project initiatives, the bid calendar, contract integration work, and elevate barriers.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, business or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 4 or more years in supply chain management, working on multidisciplinary projects.
  • 4 or more years collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve a common goal.
  • 3 or more years of experience in legal or contract negotiations through excellent communication and written skills.
  • 3 or more years presenting initiatives or projects to decision makers in an organization.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field of study from an accredited college or university. OR
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited college or university.
  • 6 or more years of contracting experience including contract negotiations through excellent communication and written skills.


Preferred Licensure and Certification

  • Certified in Planning and Inventory Management OR
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional OR
  • Certified Professional Contract Manager OR
  • Certified Contract Management Associate


Preferred Language Skills

  • Advanced English -

  • Ability to multi-task on multiple initiatives at once
  • Ability to connect the dots associated across multiple intiatives and projects
  • Excellent presentation skills amongst executives, clinical leaders and physicians
  • Ability to confront contract negotiations with professionalism and tact to achieve low risk and high value contracts
  • Self-driven individual who can work independently and within a team dependent upon the needs of the initiative
  • Relationship oriented individual who values relationships both internal to TUKHS and our external supplier partners
  • Drives hard dollar value for the organization through attention to detail, collaborative communication, and influence
  • Ability to understand, interpret and negotiate upon business terms within an agreement
  • Skilled at building strong strategic working relationships
