Sterile Processing Technician Program

Position Summary / Career Interest:
Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Technician Program, Student Manager and Faculty, those accepted into Sterile Processing Technician Program as a student is an unlicensed staff member, who is accountable to/completes delegated assignments and tasks as assigned by Manager, Faculty, Leadership or Preceptor, the Sterile Processing Technician tasked to guide students during clinicals, in a caring and culturally sensitive manner with excellent customer service at all times. Students are expected to demonstrate competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills related to delegated tasks and task areas (Decontamination, Preparation and Packaging, Sterilization, and Sterile Storage). During clinical rotation, students, developing and learning skills, assist their Preceptors in the processing of instrumentation utilized in the operating room and ancillary areas according to regulatory standards and appropriate internal standards. Tasks may include (but are not limited to): decontamination of instrumentation, assembly of trays, inventory of instruments, transport of instrumentation, assembly of peel-packed instrumentation, and other duties as tasked. The Sterile Processing Technician Program students provide a customer-focused service to all Health System team members, leadership, and medical staff and to the patients/visitors. ***** PLEASE READ****** Sterile Processing Technician Program will start July 20, 2026 Shift: 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday-Friday. Clinical schedule will vary based on department availability. Very important to be present.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Maintains a neat, clutter free and clean work environment.
- Demonstrates proper hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation principles.
- Decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and sterilizes instrumentation according to national guidelines and internal standards.
- Operates departmental equipment within appropriate guidelines/policies/procedures.
- Demonstrates high levels of quality control by following departmental policies/procedures and thorough documentation of sterilization process.
- Effectively prioritizes and communicates customer needs within the department and with external customers.
- Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Understands and identifies instrumentation and equipment utilized in all customer areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager, Faculty or Leadership.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- High School Graduate
- The SPD Intern may work in this role until 90 days after the date of their graduation/completion of their courses as listed above.
