Physician - Breast Surgical Oncologist – Faculty
The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Breast Surgical Oncologist to join our highly skilled academic surgical faculty at our NCI‑Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position is ideal for a surgeon committed to academic excellence, multidisciplinary cancer care, and advancing the field through research, innovation, and education.
Key Position Highlights:
As a core member of our breast surgical oncology team, the selected candidate will practice within a high‑volume tertiary care academic center serving a multi‑state region. The position includes:
- A dedicated Breast Surgical Oncology practice, including call responsibilities integrated with a supportive and collegial team
- Access to outstanding compensation and benefits consistent with academic faculty positions
- Eligibility requires Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship training or Complex General Surgical Oncology training with a breast emphasis
This role is designed for a surgeon who thrives in a multidisciplinary academic environment and seeks opportunities for clinical leadership, research, program-building, and mentorship.
Required Qualifications:
- MD, DO or equivalent
- Board Eligible/ Board Certified in General Surgery
- Completion of a specialized fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship or Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship with a breast emphasis
- Eligible for licensure in Kansas and Missouri

- Full access to research support, including abstraction, medical writing, and grant development
- A Comprehensive Clinical Trials Office with opportunities for participation in investigator‑initiated and cooperative group trials
- Availability of translational research laboratory start‑up resources for surgeons pursuing basic or translational research programs
Education & Training
- Teaching and mentoring responsibilities with:
- An SSO‑accredited Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship (one fellow per year)
- General Surgery residents (six per year)
- Medical students from the University of Kansas School of Medicine
Faculty are encouraged to engage in curriculum development, lecture series, operative and clinical teaching, and scholarly educational contributions.

- Fellowship-trained specialists in breast imaging, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and advanced practice providers

- Breast nurse navigators providing streamlined, patient‑centered coordination
- Full access to microvascular plastic surgeons skilled in advanced free‑flap reconstruction and lymphatic procedures

- Weekly Multidisciplinary Cancer Conferences
- Weekly Benign‑with‑Upgrade‑Potential Conferences
- Monthly Disease Working Group meetings focused on breast cancer research and program development
