The University of Kansas Health System and the Department of Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center are seeking a talented Surgical Oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal malignancies and peritoneal surface diseases to join an expanding, collaborative, multidisciplinary team. This physician will play an integral role in providing exceptional patient care while actively supporting the institution’s core missions of clinical excellence, education, research, and academic advancement. The successful candidate will leverage the extensive resources of our NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center to deliver cutting-edge treatment and contribute to meaningful scientific discovery within an integrated academic health system.

In this role, the ideal candidate will provide comprehensive, patient-centered surgical oncology care that encompasses the initial evaluation, diagnosis, complex surgical treatment, and longitudinal management of patients. The candidate will work in close, daily coordination with a robust multidisciplinary team that includes medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, gastroenterology, and primary care to develop highly individualized treatment plans. Beyond executing a broad range of surgical oncology procedures aligned with your advanced training, responsibilities will also include active participation in multidisciplinary tumor boards, inpatient consultations, shared call coverage, and overseeing comprehensive pre-operative, operative, post-operative, and survivorship care.

A strong commitment to the academic mission is essential, as the position requires active engagement in clinical, translational, or outcomes-based research within the field of Surgical Oncology. Applicants will be expected to collaborate across various disciplines to advance innovative research initiatives, drive scholarly productivity, and contribute regularly to peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Furthermore, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the education of medical students and the mentorship of General Surgery residents across inpatient, outpatient, and operative settings. A genuine passion for teaching, hands-on curriculum development, quality improvement, and fostering the next generation of academic surgeons is highly desired.

Required Qualifications:

  • MD/DO or equivalent
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in General Surgery and Complex General Surgical Oncology
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Missouri and Kansas
