Join our Outpatient Pharmacy team! We are currently looking for a Float Pharmacy Technician to assist with our staffing needs at the following locations: - Main campus in Kansas City, KS - Southlake campus in Lenexa, KS - Indian Creek campus in Overland Park, KS - Westwood campus in Westwood, KS Extra compensation incentive for being in a floating capacity. The Pharmacy Technician Float position provides staffing coverage at multiple Health System locations.  This position will assist in accurate medication order filling, compounding and record keeping to ensure timely delivery of medications. This position will include responsibility to prepare medications using appropriate technique and equipment. Medications include, but are not limited to intravenous admixtures, chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition, oral bulk/unit-dose or prepackaged medications, compounds, and investigational drugs. This position must be able to demonstrate competency in at least two of the appropriate fundamental "Competency Areas", unless Tech I status was achieved via PTCB certification.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • "Provide staffing coverage at multiple locations and be available to work at a different location on short notice to meet crucial staffing needs of the department
  • Performs ALL duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist licensed in the State of Kansas and other pharmaceutical care activities as defined in the performance standards or by the supervisor.
  • Operates computer systems to accurately input medication orders and obtain necessary patient information.
  • Assists in maintaining pharmacy inventory and record keeping in accordance with state and federal law; reports medication errors on a continuous basis.
  • Assures timely distribution of prescribed medications and stock items as needed.
  • Strives to remove barriers in achieving excellent pharmaceutical care by participating in organizational and departmental performance improvement efforts and facilitating effective communication relative to these initiatives.
  • Utilizes effective listening and communication skills; maintains supervisor awareness of personal and team activities affecting the department.
  • Maintains a plan for personal development and completion of competency validation records.
  • Participates in personal goal setting and ongoing development of team members.
  • Shares expertise by participating in the orientation and education of pharmacy employees and students.
  • If applicable, participation in the quality management program is expected with the goal of improving services by monitoring processes, analyzing data, implementing interventions to improve and evaluating the effectiveness of those interventions.
  • Responsibilities may include working to establish and maintain long and short term goals for the Quality Management Program; monitoring and documenting Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) for progress in meeting QI goals; and providing guidance and education to staff on Quality Management priorities and projects.
  • If applicable, as part of the program, the staff will uphold the quality of the Patient Management Program to include the development and reassessment of the program. *Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. *Note: These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Required Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate
  • Less than 1 year 6 months experience as a pharmacy technician


Required Licensure and Certification

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Successful completion of or equivalent National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination. (required upon start date or immediately after) upon Hire
  • Pharmacy Technician Registration - State Board of Pharmacy


Required Language Skills

  • Fluent English -


Knowledge Requirements

  • Technician must maintain certification on an ongoing basis and complete all continuing educational requirements.
  • Basic keyboarding and word processing ability
  • Must have reliable transportation for travelling to different pharmacy locations throughout the metropolitan area.
