The Spend Management Dock Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all loading dock operations, transportation schedules, and inbound and outbound shipments. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and timely movement of goods and materials into and out of the organization, supporting uninterrupted patient care and operational continuity. The Dock Operations Manager optimizes dock material flow by coordinating delivery and pick-up appointments, assigning dock space, managing traffic flow, and serving as the primary point of coordination with carriers, shippers, and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities include directing dock activity, inspecting inbound and outbound shipments for accuracy and condition, and proactively resolving operational issues that may impact service levels. A key focus of this role is streamlining supply chain operations by reducing delays, eliminating congestion and clutter, improving dock efficiency, and minimizing costs associated with receiving and distribution. The Dock Operations Manager ensures that all dock egress areas and adjacent corridors remain clear, organized, and fully compliant with fire safety, and life safety codes.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Direct and manage daily dock operations, ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient loading and unloading of inbound and outbound shipments while maintaining an organized and efficient shipping and receiving environment
  • Plan and facilitate daily dock schedules, coordinating delivery and pick up appointments to optimize dock utilization and minimize delays or congestion
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal departments, carriers, drivers, vendors, and customers regrarding dock activities, accessibility, schedules, and service interruptions; proactively communicate delays and resolve issues to ensure a high level of customer service
  • Coordinate cross functionally with clinical areas, Spend Management teams, Facilities, Security, and other hospital departments to ensure safe, seemless dock operations and alignment with broader operational needs
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures governing dock and logistics operations; continuously evaluate operational processes and initiate improvements to enhance efficiency, standardization, and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety, security, and environmental regulations including enforcement of safety protocols to prevent injuries, accidents, and property damage
  • Direct dock traffic flow to ensure safe and timely movement of vehicles and materials, maintaining clear egress routes and compliance with fire and life-safety codes in dock areas and adjacent hallways
  • Maintain operational readiness of dock equipment, including barcode scanners, pallet jacks, lift gates, and related tools; troubleshoot issues and coordinate maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Oversee cleanliness and organization of the loading dock, shipping areas, and surrounding workspaces to reduce clutter, improve safety, and support efficient operations
  • Monitor, analyze, and report quality, safety, and productivity metrics, taking corrective action as needed and driving continuous, measurable process improvement across dock operations
  • Ensure accountability for the integrity of inbound and outbound shipments, including accurate receipt, handling, staging, and release of goods
  • Apply operational judgement and decision making under pressure, resolving service disruptions, shipment issues, safety concerns, and conflicts involving staff, vendors, or customers
  • Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, and a customer focused mindset; foster teamwork, collaboration, and a solutions oriented culture with the dock and across teams

Required Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree in Supply Chain Management or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 or more years of experience working in logistics, supply chain, or healthcare management.
  • 3 or more years of experience working dock operations, receiving, shipping, and transport.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 3 or more years of experience leading people.
  • 4 or more years of experience handling freight.

Preferred Licensure and Certification
  • Lean Workshop Leader - The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) within 1-1/2 Yrs
  • DOT Hazardous Materials Training - U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)

  • Intermediate Spanish -
