Medical Assistant-Palliative Care
Under the direction and supervision of the department’s management and RN, the PCT assists the nurse in providing quality patient care to patients. Assists physician with patient care, takes vital signs, completes registration process, collects patient identification and demographics, answer phones, schedules appointments and maintains fax queue.
Responsibilities:
- Collects initial and on-going data as delegated in regards to the health status of the patient based on chart documentation.
- Follows an individualized plan of care that promotes positive immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team.
- Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes as delegated.
- Accurately documents patient response to intervention /therapy based upon expected outcomes.
- Carries out delegated patient care activities and communicates with other members of the healthcare team as evidenced by positive patient outcomes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- Successful completion of an accredited certified medical assistant training program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
- Knowledge of general medical assistant functions.
- BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.
- Must be willing to become certified medical assistant within one year of employment.
Preferred:
- Current certified medical assistant certification by the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
HIPAA: This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position based on the following criteria:
Primary - required (routine) to do the job
Secondary - required for the job, but mostly be exception
None - no approved access

Primary:
- Patient Demographic Information (information used to identify a person): Name, Date of Birth, Address, Race, Marital Status, Religion
- Clinical Information (information that describes a patient's health status): Diagnosis, Reports/Medical Notes, Test Results, Problem List, Procedures, History and Physical
Secondary:
- Financial Information/Insurance (information related to insurance, billing and payment): Billing Information, Payer Name, Payer ID, Account Balances, Plan Elements Covered, Payment Information, Payment Rates
- Coding Information (clinical information that is in (alpha) numeric format): ICD-9 Codes, Rev Codes, CPT Codes
Infection Control:
Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Training's could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.
