Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Quality Outcomes Coordinator implements and evaluates the aspects of the organization's overall plan for quality improvement and patient safety. Coordinators will focus on nursing quality indicators and patient safety priorities and assist with the development of programs and initiatives for quality monitoring and performance improvement throughout the organization. Coordinators identify appropriate unit or department-based clinical indicators and quality measures to assess quality of care and assist with audit requirements for all regulatory bodies. Will assist data collection methodology and support departments in evaluating data and implementing change when necessary. Assists staff with the development, revision, and implementation of best practices, protocols and guidelines, and guides the implementation of evidence-based practice where applicable. Provides training related to development of programs that focus on improved patient outcomes or healthcare delivery systems, performance improvement, program management, and patient safety initiatives. Maintains industry knowledge on quality improvement and innovation and assists with the publication of process improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships and technical skills.
- Coordinates data and documentation compliance and collaborates on all aspects of the department’s identified nurse sensitive quality indicators, including the National Database of Nurse Sensitive Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and all other quality related projects.
- Serves as Site Coordinator for NDNQI and acts as an internal resource for data management activities.
- Coordinates data collection, analyzes and reports results related to continued readiness activities.
- Assures data is submitted timely and accurately to databases. Assures all measures out of compliance are reviewed with appropriate staff prior to submission.
- Compiles, analyzes and reports data for quality improvement activities through appropriate committees (i.e. Shared Governance Quality Council, Practice Council).
- Serves as a mentor for staff in use of data and quality management.
- Provides support for JCAHO Committee by compiling information for the annual report and participating as requested.
- Actively participates in data collection for the improvement of system and clinical outcomes at the unit, departments and hospital level.
- Coordinates and maintains quality improvement data and ensures data integrity for all programs.
- Provides data collection and analysis, as directed, of various quality measures as it relates to program goals and outcomes.
- Understands change theory and utilizes most effective techniques to impact successful project implementation/education.
- Actively engages in seeking solutions to department needs and initiatives.
- Researches and maintains knowledge base on current trends in hospitals for assuring compliance and other quality initiatives.
- Participates in multidisciplinary groups as part of organizational improvement efforts.
- Completes special projects in an efficient and effective manner; demonstrating creativity by recognizing and acting upon opportunities.
- Ensures confidentiality of all data and security of Protected Health Information as it relates to HIPAA requirements.
- Coordinates gathering of information and preparation of materials for departmental projects, meetings, presentations or other assistance as required.
- Promotes effective working relationships among all employees.
- Models purposeful, direct, and assertive communication with staff, managers, and department/hospital administration.
- Achieves effective working relationships with all departments to achieve desired department and organizational outcomes.
- Assists with the development of Partnership goals and the activities to successfully implement the goals when applicable.
- Implements goals and activities specific to the KU Hospital Partnership Structure in the areas of service, people, quality, cost and growth.
- Participates in and guides data collection for analyses of effectiveness of patient care delivery and develop plans to modify as necessary using the Focus PDCA model in collaboration with the NM and other partnerships.
- Develops and maintains evidence-based patient care standards of practice, protocols, techniques and partnership objectives that meet Oncology Nursing Society standards of care.
- Mentors staff to achieve optimum professional practice.
- Participates in strategic planning.
- Promotes interaction with other health care providers through interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Develops and applies evaluative/outcome criteria used to measure/monitor qualitative and quantitative aspects of nursing care
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree Nursing
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's Degree Nursing or Health Services Administration
- Acute/critical care experience
Required Licensure and Certification
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing
Knowledge Requirements
- Demonstrates persistence to solving problems. Must work with limited resources within designated time restraints.
- Must have strong knowledge base of Microsoft Excel, Word, and prefer experience with database management, i.e. Microsoft Access.
