Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Physical Therapist works as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team. They perform an individualized evaluation and design a goal-directed customized plan to improve the person's physical function and mobility. They periodically review the patient's performance to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Evaluates patients including contact with physicians for any clarification of orders or precautions. Using appropriate techniques with consideration all patient physical, psychosocial, developmental/maturation status and cultural needs.
  • Develops and implements PT treatment program using appropriate problem solving and PT skills including reviewing and revising programs as indicated.
  • Communicates with physicians and other health care workers concerning patient status, ability to progress and needs for continued services.
  • Develops rapport and demonstrates professionalism with above mentioned staff.
  • Documents evaluation, progress and discharge summaries, home programs and other forms for intra/extra agency personnel as indicated.
  • Documentation is clear, concise, timely and complete.
  • Supervises PT Assistants, techs and students, providing them with information to help with patient care and organization of their assigned areas.
  • Participates in staff and committee meetings including providing input, giving in services. Shows problem solving abilities with routine activities.
  • Demonstrates rapport and professionalism with visitors, patients and families.
  • Demonstrates willingness to help out in all areas. Contributes positively to department/medical center running and morale.
  • Other activities as needed for professional and departmental growth as; committee member, lectures/labs for students, revising departmental materials, participation in local/state organizations, program development, marketing.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Physical Therapy
  • High School Graduate
  • 4 or more years of experience and successful completion of an academic Physical Therapy program.


Required Licensure and Certification

  • Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) - State Board of Healing Arts


Knowledge Requirements

  • Leadership of Interdisciplinary Team or demonstrate excellence in at least 3 of the areas below as defined in the Rehabilitation Services Clinical Ladder: Clinical Educator, Management Apprentice, Implements new product line, Certification/Speciality Recognition, State or National Committee Involvement, and Additional graduate coursework
