Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Cath EP Lab Unit Coordinator plans, directs, and evaluates overall care in Cardiac Labs under the direction of the Nurse Manager. Coordinates activities of the Cardiac Labs and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the staff. Assesses, monitors, and educates the staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Able to perform job duties of Cardiac Lab RN or Tech Sr, as applicable.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • "Contributes to the orientation, education, and evaluation of staff.
  • Coordinates/assigns daily duties and quality checks; staff delegation as it occurs on the unit; reports/meals/breaks on unit; daily staffing needs.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrates collaborative interaction with health team members to meet immediate and specific patient care needs such as seamless transition of patients in the admit/transfer/discharge process.
  • Demonstrates competence in the areas of communication/collaboration, shift coordinator, effective problem solving, and cost effective decision making.
  • Demonstrates compliance with Standards-Based Practice in providing patient care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the cost issues of the variety of internal and external resources available to meet patient/family needs by supporting budgeted productivity standards and are being accountable for cost effective use of resources and quality patient care.
  • Performs data collection to enhance performance improvement of unit. Keeps manager informed of department or patient care problems or needs. Maintains confidentiality of co-workers, patients and organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Re-evaluates staffing needs with changes in unit workflow.
  • Utilizes all support equipment and computerized systems effectively.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Bachelor Degree Nursing
  • Cardiac Lab (Cath Lab and/or EP Lab) experience

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master Degree Nursing

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing Registered Nurse in State of Kansas

Preferred Licensure and Certification
  • Cardiovascular (Cath Lab, Intervention IF RCIS-certified) - American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine (ABCM) OR
  • Registration as Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT) OR
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
