Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Parent Education Instructor teaches Childbirth Preparation classes in multiple formats. Parent education classes include Breastfeeding, Infant Care, Sibling Preparation, and many others.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Provides high quality health education to family members prior to and/or following the birth of a new baby, as evidenced by satisfactory participant evaluations and comments.
• Emphasizes family centered care based on the philosophy that the physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, and economic needs of the total family unit are integrated and considered collectively.
• Submits sign-in sheets, participant evaluations, and other program paperwork as directed.
• Utilizes approved participant handouts, teaching tools, and other resources as directed.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Graduate

Preferred Education and Experience

• Associates Degree in Nursing or Allied Health
• Previous teaching experience

Required Licensure and Certification

• Certified Childbirth Educator - Prepared Childbirth Educators (PCR) or equivalent within 180 Days
• Certified Breastfeeding Educator (CBE) - Lactation Consultant Services within 180 Days OR
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) or equivalent within 180 Days
