Position Summary / Career Interest:

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the EP Technical Education Specialist provides group and individual advanced technical knowledge/support to the EP Lab; assists with coordination of education and technical support in the EP Lab; and directs, organizes and assigns work to the staff, under the direction of the Nurse Manager. Coordinates staff development, education, and quality improvement activities. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The EP Technical Education Specialist is highly trained and experienced in the Electrophysiology Lab and able to troubleshoot daily technical issues. Provides technical and analytical support during invasive diagnostic procedures. Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills. Advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics. Proficient in providing hemodynamic management and cardiac rhythm interpretations. Ability to monitor all procedures and assist and scrub for all diagnostic and interventional procedures


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Assist with the assignments of technologist; reports/meals/breaks on unit; daily staffing needs.
  • Coordinates orientation, education, and evaluation of staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrates collaborative interaction with interdisciplinary team members to meet immediate and specific patient care needs.
  • Demonstrates competence in the areas of communication/collaboration, effective problem solving, and cost-effective decision making.
  • Participates in the development and review of departmental practices.
  • Provides leadership and supportive role in task forces and teams promoting the goals of the department
  • Uses effective design principles to assess, plan, deploy and evaluate educational interventions.
  • Utilizes adult learning principles and multigenerational learning theory to provide quality educational programs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of co-workers, patients and the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Utilizes all support equipment and computerized systems effectively.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Associates Degree or above
  • 3 or more years Advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology
  • 3 or more years Advanced knowledge in computer based imaging and hemodynamic management
  • 3 or more years Proficient in Advanced EKG interpretation
  • 3 or more years Proficient in Advanced EGM interpretation

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) BLS
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registration as Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT) within 1 Year OR
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 1 Year OR
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 1 Year
  • Respirator Fit Test - The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) upon Hire

Preferred Licensure and Certification
  • Registration as Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT)
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)

Required Language Skills
  • English - Ability to read and write English

Knowledge Requirements
  • Knowledge of radiation safety
