The Pharmacy Medication Assistance Coordinator collaborates with patients, patient financial advisors (PFA), and other healthcare professionals in designated ambulatory areas to provide comprehensive financial advocacy that assists patients and reduces negative financial impact on the organization. This position serves as an expert resource to pursue medication assistance that includes managing a patient’s experience with copay assistance and free drug programs. The Pharmacy Medication Assistance Coordinator must demonstrate excellent time management, communication, and leadership skills. Serves as a role model and facilitates a professional customer-focused approach. This individual reports through the Medication Assistance Program Leadership Team and will not have any direct reports.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Performs all duties under the supervision of a pharmacist licensed in the State of Kansas. Works with pharmacy administration to comply with state and federal laws.
- Participates in the orientation, education, and coordination of training for pharmacy employees, residents, students, and staff.
- Assists patients, nurses and health care providers with timely and accurate preparation and distribution of medications. Communicates with these customers to ensure they are informed regarding the status of medications and related issues.
- Ensures that regular inventories, outdate checking are performed and that assigned areas are organized and well maintained. Assists in medication ordering in a manner that minimizes wastage and reduces stock outages.
- Assesses and maintains organization of medication inventory to comply with The Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations.
- Assists in accurate medication order filling, compounding and record keeping to assure timely delivery of medications. Prepares medications using appropriate technique and equipment.
- Operates computer systems to accurately obtain necessary patient information and assure appropriate and accurate billing.
- Uses a courteous and professional customer-focused approach while interacting directly or on the telephone with customers. Directs customers with potential problems to the pharmacist, supervisor or administrator as appropriate.
- Assures timely distribution of prescribed medications and stock items.
- Participates in organizational and departmental performance improvement efforts and facilitating effective communication relative to these initiatives. Maintains a plan for personal development and completion of competency validation records. Participates in goal setting, ongoing development, and goals of team.
- Completes all aspects of personnel management and supports the ongoing development for Pharmacy staff in areas of responsibility.
- If applicable, participation in the quality management program is expected with the goal of improving services by monitoring processes, analyzing data, implementing interventions to improve and evaluating the effectiveness of those interventions.
- Responsibilities may include working to establish and maintain long and short-term goals for the Quality Management Program; monitoring and documenting Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) for progress in meeting QI goals; and providing guidance and education to staff on Quality Management priorities and projects.
- If applicable, as part of the program, the staff will uphold the quality of the Patient Management Program to include the development and reassessment of the program.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent
- 1 or more years one year of Pharmacy Technician Experience
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree
- 1 or more years At least one year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a large hospital setting that offers comprehensive pharmacy services
Required Licensure and Certification
- Pharmacy Technician Registration - State Board of Pharmacy or equivalent National pharmacy technician certification must be obtained within the first year of employment
Knowledge Requirements
- Basic keyboarding
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
