Position Summary / Career Interest:
Under supervision of the Health Information Management (HIM) Manager, the HIM Supervisor oversees and supervises the work and staffing of the functional areas assigned. The position is responsible for the performance, coaching, and evaluation of employees. The supervisor ensures positive interaction of staff with customers as well as quality and accuracy of work performed by staff, serving as a liaison between functional areas and internal/external customers. In collaboration with the HIM Manager and other stakeholders, this position identifies process improvement needs and requests process and technical modifications to implement the changes. The HIM Supervisor is responsible for ensuring patient confidentiality, and demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information, per HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Monitors work queues/daily assignments ensuring that work is moving efficiently, and queues are being worked according to strategic needs
- Acts as a resource supporting day to day operations of Health Information Management; monitors quality assurance and productivity and provides feedback to staff
- Assists with Human Resource management functions including interviewing, selection, orientation, education/training, feedback, performance evaluation, and policy and procedure development
- Assist in updating and maintaining personnel files. Ensures employee competency and maintains written documentation of all counseling sessions as needed.
- Maintains and monitors Kronos records for employees
- Provides input and works in collaboration with the HIM Manager/Assistant Director to implement efficiencies, policies, and best practices Completes, analyzes, and submits reports (statistical productivity, Key Performance indicators (KPIs) of a complex nature with the use of various applications including MS Excel and Power Point.
- Functions as a resource to Health System leadership in designing and implementing workflow changes that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and maintain standards of the department.
- Provides coverage in planned or emergent absences of other supervisors, when requested; provides coverage in emergent absences of employees, as needed.
- May act as a liaison with the HIM Revenue Cycle Optimization Analyst for application design, testing, and issue resolution for implementations and post go-live support within the specific job role.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned team consistently.

Required Education and Experience
- Associates Degree with AHIMA, AAPC, or NCRA credential from an accredited college or university.
- High School Graduate or GED.
- 3 or more years of experience in HIM data entry, chart completion, statistics, release of information, patient identity, quality analysis, or cancer registry.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in Healthcare-related field from an accredited college or university.
- Bachelors Degree in Healthcare-related field from an accredited college or university.
- Epic experience.
