The Director, Philanthropic Fund Management is the primary liaison to The University of Kansas Health System development directors for the preparation, signature, routing, and final distribution of gift legal documentation. Additionally, the Director is responsible for the oversight of the health system's expendable and endowed fund portfolio through the administration of fund agreements, expense tracking and monitoring, reporting, and analysis to internal and external stakeholders, reconciliation, and ensuring financial controls and best practices for the spending of donor directed gifts. Reporting to the Senior Director of Philanthropy, the Director is also responsible for managing and mentoring staff.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Direct the execution of a strategic and comprehensive fund management program of expendable and endowed funds in The University of Kansas Health System’s portfolio and the Olathe Health Charitable Foundation portfolio.
  • Serve as primary liaison to Development Directors for the preparation, signature routing, and final distribution of gift legal documentation in accordance with established business processes including: Fund Administration Agreements, Charitable Gift Commitments, Pledge Forms, Statements of Deferred Gift Provisions; etc.
  • Execute and lead all activities of the fund administration process including the creation of funds, documentation of funds, notification of new funds, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement a standardized process for fund spending plans in partnership with development directors and leadership across the institution that includes fiscal year planning, year-end reporting, and reconciliation with TUKHS finance team and external fiduciary partners.
  • Oversee and establish ongoing financial reporting to donors in partnership with development directors and donor relations.
  • Lead reporting to internal stakeholders on a quarterly and yearly basis that includes balances, pending expenditures, total funds spent, projected income, identify underutilized funds, and develop fiscal year budget planning for funds.
  • Responsible for identifying and implementing improvements in existing business practices in fund management to optimize functionality, budget tracking, spending, and reporting.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports and establish strong relationships with the development team, leadership, and key stakeholders across the campus.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience in a non-profit organization, fundraising environment, or in accounting/financial management.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.

Knowledge Requirements
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Must be able to treat confidential information with a high level of discretion.
  • Displays a positive attitude, shows concern for people and community, and demonstrates presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.
  • Must be able to work as a mentor of the team and independently.
