Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Manager, The Sterile Processing Technician Program Trainee is an unlicensed staff member who is accountable to/completes delegated tasks from a Sterile Processing Technician in a caring and culturally sensitive manner with excellent customer service at all times. Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills related to delegated tasks. After competency validation, assists the Sterile Processing Technician in the processing of instrumentation utilized in the operating room and ancillary areas according to regulatory standards and appropriate internal standards. Tasks may include (but are not limited to): assembly of trays, inventory of instruments, transport of instrumentation, assembly of peel-packed instrumentation, and other duties as assigned. The Sterile Processing Technician Program Trainee provides a customer-focused service to all Health System team members, leadership and medical staff and to the patients/visitors. ***** PLEASE READ****** Sterile Processing Technician Program will start July 18, 2024 Shift: 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday-Friday. Clinical schedule will vary based on department availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

  • Maintains a neat, clutter free and clean work environment.
  • Demonstrates proper hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation principles.
  • Decontaminates, inspects, assembles and sterilizes instrumentation according to national guidelines and internal standards.
  • Operates departmental equipment within appropriate guidelines/policies/procedures.
  • Demonstrates high levels of quality control by following departmental policies/procedures and thorough documentation of sterilization process.
  • Effectively prioritizes and communicates customer needs within the department and with external customers.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Understands and identifies instrumentation and equipment utilized in all customer areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • The SPD Program Trainee may work in this role until 90 days after the date of their graduation/completion of their courses as listed above.

Preferred

  • Currently enrolled in a CS/SPD or Surgical Technologist Certification program, or associate degree Surgical Technologist program
  • -or-
  • Currently accepted into a CS/SPD, Surgical Technology Certification, or associate degree Surgical Technologist program that will begin in the next 4 months from their hire date.
