The Senior Director of Radiology is responsible for the direction and leadership of Radiology Services of The University of Kansas Health System. These responsibilities encompass the strategic, operational, financial, programmatic, and personnel activities of the Radiology Department in alignment with the strategic goals and objectives of the health system. The Senior Director works closely with the Chair of Radiology to foster and ensure safe, high quality, and sustainable radiology services across the health system. The Senior Director will maintain a culture of trust and openness and will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders coordinating the activities of all Radiology Services.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Leadership and Strategy • Develop and implement the strategic vision for the radiology department in alignment with the overall organizational goals. • Provide leadership and direction to the radiology team, ensuring efficient and effective departmental operations. • Develop and execute systems that drive excellence in care, service, and overall quality. • Through modeling and coaching, demonstrate and develop leaders that support the departmental goals and produce a work environment of psychological safety that retains the best people. • Serve as an effective communicator of the organization's vision and goals and the department's role in achieving those. • Work in partnership with the Chair of Radiology and their leadership team to develop and execute procedures and policies that ensure safety, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency in the provision of services to patients. • Model appropriate values as well as maintain and promote social, ethical and organizational norms.
  • Financial Acumen • Oversee all aspects of finance functions of radiology service line and effectively manage the budget for the radiology department, including budget planning, cost control, and financial analysis. • Effectively use the appropriate financial concepts and tools to analyze situations and make financial decisions that support the achievement of short- and long-term departmental objectives. • Provide executive leadership with advice on the financial implications of business activities relative to radiology service line. • Explore and pursue opportunities for revenue generation and cost-saving initiatives. • Ensure stability, growth and the financial success of the service line.
  • Problem Solving • Ability to address problems that are broad, complex, and abstract, often involving system-wide issues. • Proficient at using creativity, resourcefulness, staff engagement, a continuous improvement mindset, negotiation, and diplomacy to develop solutions. • Work effectively with others in the management team to accomplish organizational goals as well as identify and resolve problems at the departmental level.
  • Independence of Action • Ability to set direction and vision for major departments or multiple departments. • Establish priorities, allocate resources, and ensure policies and systems are in place to drive operational excellence.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in Business, Healthcare or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • High School Graduate
  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience within a teaching hospital or academic environment.
  • Experience in healthcare administration in a large and complex setting with a proven track record in organizational and collaboration management, at a level necessary to cultivate and steward resources on behalf of the Department.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Radiologic Technology (RT or BSRT)

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist (LRT) - Kansas Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA)

Knowledge Requirements
  • Must be able to manage as well as influence across internal and external partner organizations, diplomatically bridging differences to advance the mission of the Health System.
  • Clear understanding of physician issues.
