Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Poison Control Pharmacist identifies drug interactions and adverse drug effects, and manages and triages poison cases and poison exposures. The Poison Control Pharmacist determines the appropriate treatment and recommends specific treatment at home or in a health care facility, and communicates with customers directly or by telephone.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Manages and triages poison cases/exposures. Assesses the severity of the exposure, identifies the toxic substances, and calculates the amount ingested and relates it to the toxic level of the identified substance.
- Determines the appropriate treatment and recommends specific treatment at home or medical treatment in an emergency department or other health care facility.
- Uses a courteous and professional customer-focused approach while interacting directly or on the telephone with customers.
- Provides poison and drug information to health professionals and the general public.
- Completes all appropriate documentation for each exposure case.
- Completes all required verbal or written follow-up in response to poison center calls.
- Serves as preceptor for students and residents during rotations in the KSPCC.
- Contributes to the development of educational materials.
- Is responsible for the toxic surveillance statistics for the KSPCC and the State of Kansas.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy
Preferred Education and Experience
- Pharmacy Doctorate
Required Licensure and Certification
- Certified Specialist in Poison Information - American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) in accordance to the Poison Center Policy
- Licensed Pharmacist - State Board of Pharmacy
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
Knowledge Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Proficiency in literature searches
