Job Summary
The RN Supervisor of Nursing Professional Development is responsible for assisting with developing a comprehensive program of interprofessional education by focusing activities of the professional development department to support positive organizational outcomes. This role is responsible for establishing work processes, supervising daily operations, assisting with strategic planning initiatives, project management, and ongoing performance improvement opportunities to support the nursing strategic plan. This role is responsible for applying subject matter expertise in the application of adult learning, educational design, process improvement, data analysis, project management, and the Nursing Professional Development practice model elements: onboarding/orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships and inquiry. The Nursing Professional Development Supervisor will coordinate the workload of department staff. The RN Supervisor will work collaboratively with health system leadership, risk management, accreditation and regulatory compliance, quality and safety, the lean promotion office, pharmacy, environmental health and safety, academic practice partners, and other departments, disciplines, and service lines.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Assists the Director of Nursing Practice, Research and Professional Development in establishing work processes and ongoing performance improvement opportunities to support the strategic plan of the Nursing Practice, Research and Professional Development Department.
- Responsible for aspects of department management including:
- Participates in the interviewing, selecting, orientating, evaluating, and corrective action process as needed for staff.
- Leads the team in identifying and distributing workload and departmental assignments amongst the Professional Development staff.
- Planning for the professional development of staff
- Assisting in the development and completion of annual department goals
- Ensuring staff (and self) complete annual employee health requirements and annual mandatory education
- Consults with Director for daily operations, department strategic planning initiatives, project development strategies and budgeting processes.
- Applies subject matter expertise in the application of adult learning, educational design, process improvement, data analysis, project management, and the Nursing Professional Development practice model elements: onboarding/orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships, and inquiry.
- Fosters collaborative partnerships with all necessary disciplines and academic partners to proactively identify risks and to develop and implement interdisciplinary action planning activities.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and coaching for the development, implementation, monitoring, and dissemination of accreditation programs led by the department (e.g. NLN Center of Excellence in Academic Progression, CCNE Nurse Residency, ANCC CNE Provider Unit, AHA Training Center, Certification Voucher programs, etc.).
- Develops, implements, and improves programs to establish and maintain education and training standards, as well as develops programs to focus on the care provided to patients.
- Disseminates meaningful and useful reports and provides recommendations to leadership, teams and point of care individuals.
- Participates in local, regional and national education related offerings and meetings.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree Nursing
- Master's Degree OR
- Doctor of Nursing Practice
- 5 or more years of Nursing experience in the healthcare industry
- Consultation, teaching, data analysis and interpretation, and project management experience
Preferred Education and Experience
- 1 or more years of experience in Nursing Professional Development role
Required Licensure and Certification
- Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) This position is eligible for certification bonus program.
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing
- Clinical practice area certification
