Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Nursing Professional Development Practitioner plans group and individualized educational initiatives to promote exemplary professional practice and quality patient care. Merging innovative thinking with evidence-based practice, the Education Specialist empowers the learner to improve outcomes by promoting professional development of the learner. Provides expertise in adult learning theory and generational learning principles to promote quality educational events. Utilizes advanced critical thinking and leadership skills to implement the Department of Nursing's educational goals. Provides oversight and coordination of educational endeavors to minimize duplication of unnecessary tasks and maximize the impact thus encouraging retention of information. ***Position will be supporting both the Paola and Olathe Campus locations.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrates ability to instruct all levels of nursing staff.
  • Demonstrates effective working relationships among departments.
  • Facilities critical thinking, technical, and interpersonal competencies of staff.
  • Models purposeful, direct, and assertive communication with staff, peers, managers and administration.
  • Participates in the development and review of departmental practices.
  • Promotes evidence-based practice and research in nursing practice and educational processes.
  • Provides leadership and supportive role in task forces and teams promoting the goals of the Department of Nursing.
  • Uses effective design principles to assess, plan, deploy and evaluate educational interventions.
  • Utilizes adult learning principles and multi-generational learning theory to provide quality educational programs.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree Nursing
  • Master Degree Nursing within 3 to 5 years OR
  • Master Education within 3 to 5 years OR
  • Master's Degree in Instructional Design within 3 to 5 years OR
  • Master's Degree Clinical Nurse Leader within 3 to 5 years OR
  • Master's Degree or related field within 3 to 5 years
  • 3 or more years of hospital clinical experience

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Education and Staff development experience
  • Previous experience in program leadership and development

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing Registered Nurse in State of Kansas

Preferred Licensure and Certification
  • National certification in a specialty nursing field preferred in 3-5 years from date of hire or transfer
  • AHA Instructor
