Licensed Practical Nurse - BH51 Trauma/Surgery

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The LPN Senior, under RN supervision, provides nursing care to groups of patients. Carries out unit specific tasks according to licensure and unit competencies for the target patient population. Provides age specific assistance with activities of daily living and therapeutic measures that will result in a lower level of agitation or higher level of comfort for the patient.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Collects data (i.e., vital signs, weights, I&O) for initial, shift and ongoing assessment of each patient as delegated by the RN per Department/Unit standards.
• Collects data pertinent to the patient's health or situation. a) Performs medication administration within scope of licensure. b) Transcribes physician orders.
• Completes patient safety rounds and contraband checks.
• Demonstrates effective problem solving skills and recommends ideas for change/improvement within the framework of unit, department, and hospital standards and goals/outcomes.
• Facilitates or co-facilitates patient goals and exercise groups.
• Implements the plan of care in a safe, timely and appropriate manner.
• Utilizes department/unit standards when providing care.
• Utilizes unit and department techniques and protocols/standards.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Graduate or GED.
• Licensed Practical Nurse

Required Licensure and Certification

• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing in State of Kansas
