Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Employee Health RN is responsible for overseeing key components of the employee health program, including pre-hire processes, drug screening review, immunization and respiratory protection compliance, workplace exposure assessments, and overall employee health and safety initiatives. This position ensures that the health system's workforce remains compliant with health regulations, workplace safety standards, and organizational health initiatives, all while fostering a safe and healthy work environment.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Coordinate and manage the documentation and compliance of pre-boarding, including the determination of appropriate next step for drug screen results based on MRO recommendations.
- Communicate with Talent Acquisition and Occupational Health regarding pre-employment health screening requirements and advise on communication to candidates.
- Monitor, assess, identify, and collaborate with Infection Prevention and Control, Environmental Health & Safety, and Occupational Health to mitigate risks associated with workplace exposures (and potential exposures).
- Participate in workplace safety audits and incident investigations, ensuring that exposure-related health concerns are documented and addressed promptly.
- Ensure proper reporting and documentation of any workplace injuries, illnesses, or exposures, and assist in developing corrective actions or safety improvements.
- Responsible for immunization management and compliance to include tracking, administration, documentation, policy review, compliance reporting and organization of on-site vaccination clinics in collaboration with appropriate internal departments.
- Perform medical surveillance, respiratory questionnaires, and ensure documentation of training and fit testing for all health system employees.
- Develop, implement, and deliver health and safety education programs aimed at improving employee wellness and preventing workplace injuries that include, but not limited to, ergonomics, stress management, personal protective equipment use, mental health resources, and wellness challenges.
- Maintain accurate, timely, confidential, and up to date health records for all employees in compliance with relevant health privacy laws and health system policies, with the ability to supply reports accurately.
- Work closely with the HR Centers of Excellence to ensure smooth integration of health screening and wellness programs into the employee lifecycle.
- Partner with the Environmental Health & Safety team to periodically review programs or address immediate safety concerns to ensure improvement of process, timely resolution, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Stay up to date with the latest health regulations, workplace safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Support the development and implementation of emergency preparedness plans related to health risks (e.g., pandemics, natural disasters).
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree Nursing in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Education and Experience
- 2 or more years of nursing experience in an acute care setting, employee health, occupational health, or workplace safety
- Experience in healthcare settings or with health programs in large organizations
Required Licensure and Certification
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing Must have current active multistate state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in state in which you live OR active single state RN license in good standing in the state you will be working with proof of application of a multistate RN license in the state in which you live.
Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 are required to obtain a multistate state RN license from the state in which they live at the time of their next RN license renewal by 3/31/2026. - Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA) or obtained within 14 days
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) - American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (ABOHN) 30-hour General Industry certification or similar training is a plus.
Knowledge Requirements
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, including OSHA, HIPAA, and CDC guidelines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various departments and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and employee health records management system(s).
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
