The Assistant Director of Perioperative and Procedural Clinical Operations is responsible for frontline leadership mentorship, development and support, standards of practice, the advancement of initiatives, workflows and programs that align with the division's mission of providing world-class surgical and procedural care in adherence to our core values and strategic vision. The Assistant Director provides strong leadership under the guidance of the Director Perioperative & Procedural Services Clinical Operations and in strong partnership with the Senior Clinical Director and Vice President Perioperative & Procedural Services. The Assistant Director provides leadership and support related to regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and performance improvement efforts within the division and promotes positive, collegial relationships among all staff within the Perioperative and Procedural Services Division.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of The University of Kansas Health System
  • Creates and conveys the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the Perioperative and Procedural Services Division: • Facilitate division strategic planning and facilitation in collaboration with division leadership. • Build and manage teams to enable fulfillment of Perioperative and Procedural Services Division strategic, operational and quality goals. • Implementation of monitoring tools for measuring the success of core initiatives and lean improvement work. • Organize and coordinate operational goals and objectives in a way that will ensure maximum productivity and quality outcomes.
  • Provides support to Perioperative and Procedural Services Clinical Division leadership and supporting departments: • Provides support, mentorship, and guidance to the frontline leaders. • Supports improvement work and aligns projects to meet the needs of the process owners. Delegates authority and meets deadlines. • Provides leadership and collaboration between staff as well as other partners and stakeholders for Perioperative and Procedural Services.
  • Facilitates standards-based practice and initiates the development and revision of department and division standards to improve patient care: • Evaluates department program/ initiative outcomes. • Supports management and staff performance and quality outcomes by modeling problem-solving conflict resolution. • Ensures competency of all clinical operations leaders and team members. • Offers and initiates solutions to department initiatives, challenges, and problems.
  • Promotes effective working relationships among all employees: • Models purposeful, direct, and assertive communication with staff, physicians, peers, and department/ hospital administration. • Facilitates effective working relationships among departments to achieve desired department and organizational outcomes.
  • Provides operational direction and leadership within Perioperative and Procedural Clinical Operations: • Proactively identifies needs of Perioperative and Procedural Services leaders and staff as well as key partners. • Ensures that Perioperative and Procedural Clinical Operations priorities are aligned with the needs and priorities of Perioperative and Procedural Business Operations and health system strategy. • Ensures alignment of division strategic initiatives partnering departments (inpatient, ambulatory, etc).
  • Ensures adequate support available to provide high quality care and a safe environment.
  • Supports Lean improvement activities in Perioperative and Procedural Services Value Streams.
  • Develops, implements, and manages programs to mitigate risk for employee health, patient safety, and clinical and business operations.
  • Champion’s quality / performance improvement efforts within Perioperative and Procedural Services. • Sets priorities and oversees progress for department-specific performance improvement initiatives based on current performance, regulatory requirements, and institutional and national initiatives. • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory standards and requirements. • Provides leadership with division policy and procedure standardization and management. • Facilitates and provides leadership for division strategic planning, business case development, program development, and program changes. • Monitors division compliance with Health System HIPAA and information security standards.
  • Promotes positive, collaborative relationships between Perioperative & Procedural Services Clinical Operations and Perioperative and Procedural Business Operations. a. Sets example of constructive, professional, and positive relationships. b. Promotes proactive issue identification and resolution between Perioperative and Procedural Services and primary customers.
  • Ensures active and productive participation at forums for issue identification and resolution.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Master's Degree currently enrolled in or have obtained a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field
  • 3 or more years experience in healthcare leadership
  • Experience with quality improvement techniques and Lean methodologies
  • Experience with quality improvement techniques and Lean methodologies

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience in Perioperative or Procedural clinical or business operations leadership

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing Registered Nurse in State of Kansas

Knowledge Requirements
  • Commands advanced communication skills with various levels of professionals within multiple media/formats required
  • Proficient on Microsoft Applications required
