The Assistant Director of Clinical Transportation and Ambulance Services will be instrumental in the design, development and launch of a new hospital-based transportation program. This team will facilitate safe, timely, and efficient transitions of care between hospital campuses and in collaboration with external facilities. The Assistant Director will be supporting strategic planning, operational set-up, and team formation to ensure the program achieves high standards for patient safety, efficiency and integration with hospital services.

The Assistant Director will be supporting strategic planning, operational set-up, and team formation to ensure the program achieves high standards for patient safety, efficiency and integration with hospital services.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates competence in critical thinking, communication, and technical skills related to healthcare transport operations.
- Provides direct oversight of a hospital-based patient transport and ambulance service, including daily operations and staffing.
- Ensures 24/7 transport service availability to meet clinical and throughput demands.
- Collaborates with nursing, clinical departments, and administrative leadership to optimize workflows and patient experience.
- Supports and models effective problem-solving and conflict resolution practices.
- Oversees integration of dispatch and tracking systems to improve transparency and coordination.
- Maintains awareness of clinical safety standards and supports transport operations that align with Joint Commission, CMS, and state EMS regulations.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive quality improvement program focusing on clinical care, operational efficiency, and patient safety.
- Establish key performance indicators and benchmarks, utilizing data analytics to monitor trends and identify areas for improvement.
- Facilitates cross-departmental communication and coordination, especially during capacity surges or emergencies.
- Supports and reinforces a culture of safety, excellence, and just culture principles among the team.
- Assists in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and safety across shifts.
- May serve in an on-call rotation or leadership support role during after-hours transport events or emergency operations.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Healthcare Administration, Emergency Management, Nursing, or a related field
- 3 or more years of progressive leadership/management experience in EMS, transport, logistics, or healthcare operations
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's Degree
Required Licensure and Certification
- Valid state EMS license/certification (e.g., Paramedic) or Registered Nurse license (Kansas and Missouri)
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) or Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) training
- Additional transport or EMS certifications
Required Language Skills
- Fluent English -
Knowledge Requirements
- Demonstrated competency with EPIC, Microsoft 365, and transport/dispatch technology platforms
- Understanding of clinical workflow integration and hospital throughput metrics
