Ensures prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history). Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- The lead MRI tech should have a good understanding of MRI, the physics, and a good understanding of how changes in protocols impact the study and the patient physical condition. Responsible for assisting new staff with competencies and must have the technical skill to assure proper training.
- Understands how the scanner functions and recognizes problems is expected. Shares knowledge with all staff to better understand the system and assure it is functioning to specification.
- Understands the importance of providing quality and timely customer service for any ordering physician.
- Assists Radiologists and other medical staff performing patient care procedures such as patient lifting, I.V. insertion, drawing blood, or others, as assigned. Regularly communicates to all Radiologists and Department Manager/Director.
- Monitors full time staffing needs for Hospital and Pavilion, updates schedule on F-drive and delivers schedule to staff members (posting, hand delivery, email)
- Monitors hours worked and assure the department is staffed to expected procedure volume.
- Available for staff to communicate/call .
- Provides patients with accurate procedure detail. Communicates with the patients and gives the customer their business card upon departure. Utilizes the five points of communication: Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You.
- Implements the Language of Caring lessons into their customer service skills.
- Assures that the MRI team are meeting these goals by listening to their deliveries and coaching as necessary to improve communication skills.
- Understands all computer/software applications that are required to perform day, evening, and night work flow tasks. Utilizes IT help desk when appropriate. The MRI lead tech will need basic skills in Excel and Word to assist in scheduling and data tracking.
- Available to assist in other departments when needed or assigned. Individual capitalizes on all licenses, certifications, and qualifications that they obtain.
- Recognizes others department needs and is always willing to assist if necessary. Reaches out to other leads for advice and builds excellent working relationships. The lead should maintain their basic radiology skills and be able to assist in occasional radiology procedures.
- Complete working knowledge of workstation and post processing functionality for all applications. Oversees all MR Technologists postprocessing skills. Enforces monthly QA process to promote continued expansion of knowledge for all MRI Technologists.
- Understands Lawson Requisitions and utilizes Outlook calendar for reminders of expired/expiring supplies.
- Monitors usage and replacement of supplies, maintaining a level of inventory conducive to workflow.
- Understands the supplies budget and works within that framework, by monitoring staff usage and oversees excessive waste or overstock.
- Meets with vendors to keep a constant pressure on supply quality and price.
- Understands the evolution of business, technologies, and processes. Shows initiative to accept challenges with a positive attitude. Comprehends that changes occur that require flexibility.
- Continues to monitor, maintain, consistent patient flow, Communicates to patients, staff, physicians, nurses (delays, technical issues, scan parameters).
- Understands both Hospital and Pavilion workflow, knows evening and nights workflow and transition.
- Keeps a presence at both the Pavilion and the Hospital, monitors worklists, and makes phone calls to communicate to staff about any issues or to check in.
- Verifies orders in the patient chart/EMR. Reviews Radnet contrast safety questionnaire with patient. Follows Department Policy for contrast use. Ensures consent form is signed for appropriate designated exams.
- Follows the MRI safety policy. Diligent about safety as it pertains to anyone entering the MRI scan room. Absolutely restricts items attracted by magnets from entering the MRI scan room including personal items and non-compatible medical devices.
- Technologists and Radiologists will work together to assure appropriate age specific protocols."
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Completion of an accredited Radiology program
- 1 or more years of MRI experience with an understanding of complex exams, protocol manipulation, and current MRI safety measures
Preferred Education and Experience
- Associates Degree
- Bachelors Degree
- 5 or more years of experience
Required Licensure and Certification
- CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
- Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (will be required to obtain MRI credentials withing 1.5 years) OR
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) if not ARRT (R)
