Position Summary / Career Interest:

Performs a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care unit operations.


  • Essential Functions:

    1.         Demonstrates knowledge of sterile field.

    2.         Illustrates proper technique for transporting and positioning patients safely.

    3.         Displays understanding of proper body mechanics.

    4.         Demonstrates special positions and/or bed positions  

    5.         Recognizes the area of surgical prep (clean or sterile).

    6.       Responsible for maintaining environmental cleanliness standards of the operating rooms and ancillary areas.

    7.         Demonstrates proper technique for surgical skins preps.

    8.         Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

    9.        Assesses case schedule and determines equipment and supply needs.

    10.        Sets up equipment and gathers supplies.

    11.        Completes the equipment maintenance, checks and repairs and makes adjustments necessary for normal and efficient operation; monitors equipment temperature to ensure proper performance; contacts maintenance if repairs are needed; works closely with the machines in order to recognize potential problems and learns to repair small problems; and fills out work requests when needed.  

    12.        Participates in department specific quality improvement projects.

    HIPAA:  This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position at The University of Kansas Health System, Great Bend Campus, based on the following criteria:

    Primary – required (routine) to do the job;

    Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and

    None – no approved access



  • BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment. 

  • Ability to type and manage stress through effective communication and multi-tasking.

  • Ability to deal understandingly and tactfully with ill patients and their families

  • Ability to maintain working relationships with Associates.  


  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Courses in medical terminology, business communication and computers.

  • Six months of medical center experience.
