Specific Information about Acute Care (Med-Surg)
Our 17-bed Medical Surgical Unit (known as Med-Surg) is focused on adults with acute or chronic issues. This can also mean patients getting ready for or recovering from surgeries ranging from a routine colonoscopy to a knee replacement. We truly see it all, which is why walking in to work every day can be exciting, you never know what you are walking in to.
Orthopedics
Here, nurses acquire a wealth of knowledge and technical skills from managing patients who have had complex orthopedic surgeries. Our surgical specialty is total joint replacement. We take great care of these patients throughout the continuum of their care. Because orthopedic patients often have additional complex health problems, nurses acquire wide-ranging experience while on the job. In fact, nurses become experts in pain management, positioning and mobility.
Internal Medicine/Telemetry
This unit provides an ideal opportunity to build your fundamental nursing and leadership skills. Our nurses care for patients with diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, kidney failure, liver failure, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, GI bleeds, electrolyte imbalances, sepsis, and many other conditions requiring telemetry observation. We value employee development, engagement, teamwork, shared governance, transformational leadership and high-quality patient care.
Other diagnoses range from COPD exacerbations, pancreatitis, non-healing wounds, pulmonary emboli, and more. Nurses work with stable trachs, PEG tubes, ostomies, catheters, and wound drains. This welcoming unit prides itself on taking care of one another while taking great care of patients. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is 4:1.
