The Oncology Nurse provides professional nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Administers medications safely.
- Collects and analyzes comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation to determine the diagnosis or issues. a) Performs primary and secondary patient assessments and documents in the medical record accurately and timely. b) Documents changes and omissions of the identified plan.
- Communicates systematic report to other care providers.
- Coordinates care delivery; utilizes resources to promote the continuum of care.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in all aspects of IV therapy and hydration
- Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.
- Evaluates and documents progress toward the attainment of outcomes.
- Identifies expected interventions and outcomes for an individualized plan of care and communicates effectively with patient, family and other team members.
- Implements the plan of care in a safe, timely and appropriate manner.
- Manages patient care based on knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and side effects of such treatment.
- Uses quality and evidence based practice to deliver and improve care.
- Works closely with more experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision.
- Infusion/Treatment Depts: demonstrates knowledge and skills in chemotherapy/biotherapy and blood products.
- Radiation Oncology Depts:demonstrates knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures, including side effect and symptom managment.Demonstrates ability to triage patients and coordinate with provider to ensure care needs are met.

- Associate's Degree in Nursing (or higher degree) required
- Registered Nurse license required for state the clinic is located in, at the time of hire (Kansas or Missouri). Must obtain additional State license, to possess both Kansas and Missouri licensing within 6 months of hire
- BLS Certification or obtained within 14
- Must complete BSN within five years of hire
As a condition of your employment and continued employment with the health system, you are required to secure a Nurse Compact License (NCL) within 60 days of your date of hire. This will enable you to perform your job duties not only in Kansas, but other compact states. You will be responsible for any expenses you incur in securing this license, and must provide your manager with evidence of this license before the sixty-day period expires. If you fail to secure the NCL as required, you will be immediately removed from the work schedule and placed on an unpaid administrative leave, until we can understand the reasons for your non-compliance. Further failure to comply with the licensing requirement will result in your end of employment with the health system.
- BSN Degree preferred
- Infusion/Treatment Depts: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred
- 1 year med surg/acute care preferred
- 1 year oncology experience preferred
