Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing position provides daily operational administration for nursing and ensures the mission, vision, and values of the health system are embedded in the daily work of the behavioral health service line. The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer. Supervision is exercised over a team of nursing, professional, clerical, and ancillary personnel totaling over 250 FTEs across three campuses. Mental and Behavioral Health Service line encompasses direct care provided to pre-adolescence through the adult populations. This role provides oversight and input to clinical service line initiatives and improvement work.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, coordinates, implements, and directs the ongoing administrative aspects of assigned nursing and patient care areas at the University of Kansas Health System mental and the various behavioral health locations.
  • Participates in evaluation of nursing and clinical practice through peer review and clinical coaching. Assists in the establishment of institutional standards of practice for all aspects of nursing and other patient care services in alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Coordinates in the creation and implementation of health system policies and procedures.
  • Advocates for the protections and rights of individuals, families, communicates, populations, healthcare providers, nursing and other professions and institutions and organizations, especially related to health and safety.
  • Collaborates with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing and other services.
  • Enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing services administration, and the delivery of services.
  • Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice.
  • Integrates research findings and evidence-based practice into standards.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required:

  • BLS Certification
  • Multi-State Nursing License Required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • 2 years of behavioral health experience required
  • 3 years of supervisory and/or management experience required
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred:

  • 5 years of professional nursing experience preferred
