Clinical Laboratory Technician II
This person will be working in a clinical laboratory section and will be responsible for specific tasks identified for the individual section. These tasks are listed in Responsibilities below. The Clinical Laboratory Technician II will be trained and accountable for performing duties that support the operation of the laboratory section but do not require a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician. This person will be expected to have established knowledge of processes and be able to work through problems independently.
Responsibilities:
Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit/section or department. Will be required to maintain regulatory compliance according to CLIA and CAP requirements. Participate in hospital and laboratory quality management programs and maintain records and documentation appropriately.

- The Clinical Laboratory Technician is a position in the Laboratory that will perform duties in separate individual departments. Some duties may be common to multiple departments and others very specific for the individual area.
- The Clinical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for proper specimen collection, including patient preparation, if applicable, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation and storage of specimens.
- Training will be completed and documented prior to performing testing or analyzing patient specimens.
- Follows the laboratory’s procedures for all activities to include but not limited to specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
- Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control and other activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and equipment maintenance activities.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately communicate the issue to leadership.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
- A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage
- Tracks and maintains inventory of supplies and reagents.
- Prepares chemicals and reagents for processing.
- Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science area that transfers to the Molecular and Clinical Laboratory
- Knowledge of molecular and genetic skills and 2 or more years of molecular experience for Clinical Molecular Oncology Department.
- Ability to follow directions/procedures.
- Must be a meticulous, detail-oriented person, interested in learning new technology
- Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot issues.
- Skills in Microsoft Word and Excel, and data management.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree.
- Job-related experience in clinical diagnostic lab.
