Laboratory Technician Job

Hours: 0330-noon

We currently have an opening for a Lab Technician.


Basic knowledge of the overall sections which comprise the laboratory and each section's functions.

Ensures all requirements for specimen integrity have been met (positive patient identification, correct specimen collected, proper transport of sample has been employed, etc).

Accurately prepares, labels and stores specimen collection materials, reagents, and patient specimens for analyses.

Maintains and operates equipment, keeping appropriate documentation. Reports malfunctions to supervisor.

Follows regulatory, accreditation and institutional standards, policies and procedures.

Disposes of bio-hazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps, and other potentially hazardous materials according to policy, and strictly adheres to safety and infection control procedures.

Recognizes laboratory's quality assurance indicators such as those for specimen collection, specimen handling and Identification, and participates in quality assurance/quality improvement activities.

Recognizes the importance of patient focused care. Consistently practices customer service skills and techniques. Willingly takes the time to listen to the needs of patients, staff members, co-workers and visitors, while making every attempt to be of assistance.

Respects the confidential and sensitive needs of each patient regardless of diversity.

Performs general housekeeping duties to ensure laboratory cleanliness and safety.

Routinely files QC records, requisitions and reports.

Receives blood products into inventory.


High School Diploma/GED required.

Associates degree in laboratory science preferred.

One year of experience in Clinical Laboratory specimen processing and hospital/lab information systems data entry preferred
