We currently have an opening for Clinical Support Manager

The Manager for Clinical Support is a Registered Nurse that serves as a liaison between the Department of Materials Management and Clinical end users. This position utilizes Nursing education and experience to research and analyze clinical issues associates with selection and delivery of product and equipment. This manager develops and implements policies and procedures relative to selection, acquisition, delivery, and use of product and equipment. The goal is to promote optimal patient care and patient/staff safety, in an efficient and cost effective manner.


  • Essential Responsibilities:
    • Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills.
    • Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently for patient care. This position provides no direct patient care.
    • Supports the mission, vision, and goals of the University of Kansas Hospital and

o The goals of the Materials Management Department.

o Proactively communicates with the Distribution Manager to ensure timely

o ordering and replenishment of supplies.

o Serves as the Manager of the Supply Liaisons. This team is responsible to Nursing for assessing the product usage, product life cycle, and establishing the appropriate procedures for:

Par/stocking levels;

      • Max usage levels
      • Monitor lead times;
      • Monitor re-order points/critical levels
      • Rotation of stock

o Serves as Materials Management representative to standing and adhoc committees that address product and equipment issues, i.e. (Infection Prevention and Control, Value Analysis Team, Sharps Safety Task Force, Disaster and Surge Capacity Teams)

o Manage and maintain the procedures set forth for the Supply Liaisons and the following equipment:

      • Code Carts
      • Isolation Carts
      • Intubation Kits
      • Arterial Bleed Kits
      • PAPRs
      • Air Pals
    • Serves as a direct liaison to onsite equipment management services; UHS, Recover Care and UniMed.
    • Serves as resource to Materials Management staff by identifying new, alternate/substitutes for product and equipment and establishing product selection criteria.
    • Reviews recall notices and coordinates recalls of inventory product with Risk Management, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Management and Clinical end users

  • Non-Essential Responsibilities
    • Coordinates and oversees special projects as requested by the Assistant Director of Materials Management, and the Vice President, Health Systems Contracting and Procurement
    • Serves as a backup to the Distribution Manager in her/his absence if needed.
    • Serves as a communication liaison between Supply Liaisons and Distribution staff.
    • Coordinates acquisition of disposable for equipment conversions, communicates conversions to Clinical staff as indicated.
    • Coordinates product and equipment acquisition for special projects, staff education, Hospital shutdowns, and flu shot drive.
    • Serves as department representative for Educational training, i.e. JCAHO and other regulatory agencies.
    • Organizes and schedules evaluations with both vendor and Hospital staff.
    • Researches and disseminates evaluation results from other Healthcare organizations.


High School Diploma or equivalent required

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required

Management experience required

Certified Registered Nurse required
