Assesses patients before anesthesia including analyzing medical history and planning anesthesia delivery.
Administers various types of anesthesia including inhalational, intravenous, regional anesthetics based on anesthetic plan. Performs any necessary invasive procedures including insertion of catheters.
Observes and records all patient functions being continuously monitored and evaluates need for ancillary drugs to maintain normal functioning.
Consults with staff anesthesiologist as necessary regarding patient condition.
Documents for patient record all relevant assessment, care and monitoring data.
Ensures availability of required supplies and equipment before anesthetic procedure.
Educates patients, families and staff on anesthesia aspects related to conditions and diseases. Reassures patient before procedure. Accompanies to recovery area to ensure condition satisfactory.
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Bachelor's Degree or Masters' in Nursing required
Graduate of anesthesia school required
Minimum of two years nursing experience, preferably one year as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
Current certification with the American Associate of Nurse Anesthetists
